"That transition isn't seen anymore."

It wasn't seen in 1977, either. It was a tribute to the style of the old action-adventure serials from the 1930s and '40s.

Not Earth.
Alderaan.
Remember it's in a galaxy far far away.

It wasn't Earth that was destroyed. It was Princess Leas' home planet of Alderon. Remember, a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away.

Not-so-fun fact:
The Chewbacca costume that the late, great Peter Mayhew wore was not supposed to get wet in the garbage compactor scene. But it did, and considering the fact that the original costume was made of yak hair, It produced a pretty funky odor.

Here's an adorable factoid to cancel out the nasty one: Peter Cushing, the actor who played Grand Moff Tarkin would wear fuzzy slippers when he was shown in shots from the waist up because the boots of his costume were uncomfortable.

Great review - I was 6 years old when I watched this in the cinema - remember like it was yesterday!! It's good to see that today#/'s generation also appreciating this movie.

There WAS NO CGI in the 70s   xD  xD

6:22 - The sounds that the Minions make was inspired by the aliens (Called Jawas)

Back in 1977, there was no episode 4, it was just Star Wars. Nobody expected it to be such a hit. 20th century fox actually gave theaters a discount on another movie expected to be a hit if they also showed this scifi movie. Nobody even remembers what that other movie was

On behalf of all of us, welcome to the Star Wars family, .. you have incredible journey ahead of you, but don’t worry, we’ll all be with you 😊

There really was no CGI as we know it today back in 1976-77...

There actually was a single bit of CG in the original version of this movie, long before the "updates". The scene at the Rebel Briefing, where they show a wireframe trench run, was actual CGI.

6 years old when I saw this movie in the theater and have seen every Star wars movie in the theater

Actually Vader was the emperor's right hand without any military rank while Grand Moff Tarkin was a governor and commander of the Death Star, like a captain is the supreme leader of a ship.

The sound design is from various sources. The lightsabre hun is from old movie projectors sitting idle. That's one example. Look up a guy by the name of Ben Burtt. He won an academy award for sound design. Check out the documentary Empire of Dreams. You'll enjoy it and it will answer some of your questions. Take Care.

28:00 Protocol Droids and Astromech (like C3PO and R2D2 respectively) are everywhere, troopers had no reason to think these weren't part of the "staff" aboard the Death Star.

Congratulations! You have taken your first step into a larger world.

Empire Strikes Back is usually considered the best, but A New Hope is my personal favorite! It has so many moments that give me chills!!

I saw this opening night in The Chinese Theater, in Hollywood, CA.
In 1977, it was simply "Star Wars" . In 1977, the only CGI was the Death Star wireframe plans, otherwise it was all practical effects. This version has had quite a few special effects updates since the original release. The original Jabba scene was filmed with a human actor, but was cut from the original release.
"Star Wars" is an homage to the "Buck Rogers" and "Flash Gordon" movie serials of the 1930's & 1940's.
The opening text crawl is directly from the original "Buck Rogers" and "Flash Gordon" serials.
C3PO was an homage to Maria from "Metropolis" 1927
R2D2 was an homage to Huey, Dewey & Louie (Drones 1, 2 & 3) from "Silent Running" 1972
The relationship between C3PO & R2D2 is based on the comedy duos Laurel & Hardy and Abbott & Costello.
Chewbacca was an homage to Lucas's dog, Indiana. Also the inspiration for the name Indiana Jones.
Harrison Ford's first real movie was "American Graffiti" (1873) by George Lucas. Ford was still working as a carpenter when Lucas was casting for "Star Wars". Lucas didn't want anyone he had previously worked with on "American Graffiti" but Ford was doing some carpentry in the production offices. He normally worked overnight so there was minimal interruption. He was finishing up some work and Lucas needed an extra person to run lines. Lucas was trying to put together a good match for Luke, Hans & Leia. Needles to say, Ford made the cut. You can find some of the screentests on YT.

13:32 - The guy with the sunken cheeks is a classic actor named Peter Cushing. If you ever get a chance to watch old Horror Movies made by Hammer Studios, he was in a great deal of them.
