“The desensitization and normalization of dehumanization isn’t healthy and is antithetical to creating art” what a line

The lack of chat around Kesha is wild.

The kpop industry loves traumatizing children. Intense training, starving them, body shaming, isolation, make them take the fall for company bull shit. Don’t protect minors, don’t protect their artists period. And they keep getting younger. How Yoonchae is dressed and whatnot is nice but it’s the baaaaaare minimum

I first heard of Katseye through the documentary and honestly, it's what is stopping me from listening to their music. The whole thing was deeply uncomfortable, and I feel that if I give in, if I listen to them, then the people who put those minors through so much are ultimately ... right. Like yeah they traumatized these poor girls but hey, it works so why stop doing that ? I feel like it feeds this fucked up system. On the other hand, these are talented girls, who, I think, do their art with honesty and passion, so it's not fair to them in a way. I don't know I have very conflicted feelings about that, idk if i'm the only one haha

If y’all thought Dream Academy was bad, yall seriously don’t wanna know what happens in Kpop survival shows or just in Kpop labels with trainees in general

The way people hate ariana and cynthia rn feel like a mix of homophobia (specifically lesbophobia), misogynoir, and high school era bullying of theatre weird kids. Plus the misogyny that always follows women in the public eye.

Like most things, these biases are covered in jokes, but it’s been really uncomfortable being a black queer nd person online lolllllll

2:35 RAYE not being within the vocalist circle in that Venn diagram is actually INSANE

Guys I feel like we’ve just fully brushed past Charli’s older hits since Brat happened. Fancy and I Love It were both chart-topping. We have to stop the erasure of her popularity in the early 2010s

I just wanna say thank you for using both they and she for Demi. i see wayyy too many people talk about them and just straight up ignore one set of pronouns in favor of another (and it's usually the they/them that gets left off). Also, very funny that Selena was your gay crush because Demi was mine when I was a tween <333

thank you for being respectful towards ariana, especially during all of the disgusting things that people are saying about her right now

I think it's a miracle that Ariana wants to even do music still. The girl has been through so much in such a short amount of time. The way the internet treats her (and Cynthia honestly) is so disgusting. People forget she has PTSD and anxiety, so of course she's jumpy at premieres and award shows. But watch the on set videos of Wicked and she's having the time of her life. It's a difference of her being comfortable vs not comfortable. Even during her big run in 2018-2019 post Manchester, she only did a few interviews and a lot of them were with the same people she felt comfortable with (Jimmy Fallon, Zach Sang).

1:05 ADELLA MENTIONNN

Miley Cyrus isn't touring anymore either, she's been talking about how exhausting it is, for this last album she's been more focused on the visuals and the fashion, didn't do a lot of performances

i get what ariana grande feels about people not commenting on her body, but when two of the biggest stars of the last 2 years are publicly starved to the point of being unrecognisable by the director who is supposed to shephard them through these movies and the backlash that comes with them, it becomes about something bigger than just one person. it’s industry wide abuse, from directors to producers to agents to tabloids to news anchors, no one is exempt from the consequences of their fatphobia, especially when it endangers the health of everyone trying to escape it.

Obsessed w katseye, loves ari, and is a lesbian?? Girl we're twins

bro katseye's new song with the main lyrics being "eat zucchini" and some of these girls are like freshly 18-- i haven't seen any discourse about it but truly like the adult (male) execs are the ones profiting off of the numerous ways these incredibly young girls are sexualized,, also them like feeling each other up in live shows,, it makes me so uncomfortable to watch knowing that this is choreographed and orchestrated by adults who want fans to see them touch each other to get more views or WHATever. idk i watched the documentary and it was so good and i really tried to get into katseye but the overt exploitation of these young women has me not wanting to engage.

Seriously one of your best deep-dives yet, you've somehow managed to organize all the latest "tea" with celebs like Demi, Ariana, Cynthia, Selena, Hayley, etc. and use their situations as an example of a much bigger problem, in a way that i personally never realized before. It does feel like our classic pop girls are going through it, I don't think anybody should have to be in the public eye for 15+ years, it's gotta be unhealthy. Can't wait for the next video! Thank you for telling it like it is

I'm not surprised Hybe/Geffen staff/execs look bad in Dream Academy - the k-pop system loves to make the company the villain. It helps shield/deflect any friction against the artists themselves. When the artists succeed it's always by their own merit, but when anything goes wrong blame the company. Bad music, poor sales, wardrobe malfunction, even dating scandals are all handled by or attributed to the company in kpop.

It's kind of a genius move bc a reality show needs drama, and making the company the primary villain allows their future artists' images to remain squeaky clean. (Tho ik Adela and Manon didn't escape unscathed).

13:37 I giggled when you said Selena Gomez was your first girl crush because I think she’s so adorable. She’s always had adorable energy. I’ve always loved her deeply and then finding out she’s also a cancer like me makes me love her more but for me my first girl crush on Disney was Demi Lovato.
