Please never stop posting videos. You are my inspiration to read. I have a learning disorder and my husband has noticed how greatly my vocabulary has grown since I started reading books you recommended ❤

Jack Sparks: it might help to know that Arnopp was a rock writer before moving into fiction. I did wonder how much of Sparks was modelled on some of the ppl he'd met writing for rock rags.

YAYY JACK SPARKS MENTION!! would love a deeper dive on this one. it's one of the first adult horror books I ever read and I truly love it, and can also totally see your perspective. To me, Jack being so awful and unlikable without any redemption makes it weirdly... enjoyable? to see where his path takes him, including all the horror and loss that accompanies him- plus the extremely interesting character/side narrator of his brother Alistair. Him being soooo bad and with us (the reader) having a sense that in this book the supernatural world is real and engaging with 'our' world makes the payoff so sweet. I've never seen many people talk about this one and would loveeee to hear more of your thoughts dissecting it!

Natural Beauty was wild. I liked it and I now know, that the author actually is a professional musician, who was forced to work in the beauty industry at one time, so I can appreciate, that she had some insight and just did go from there.

This House Will Feed. The two h's meet - both history and horror (in reality and legend). An incredibly satisfying read.

I am currently reading Yesteryear. I have considered DNFing it... until I listened to your review.

You are so correct about not needing to relate with or like a narrator. I have been limiting myself in thinking I need something or someone to relate to, to keep reading.
You explained this so beautifully and succinctly I am compelled to tell you how appreciative I am.

I listened to “this house will feed” after you recommended it here and as an Australian who had family come from Ireland in the 1800s, I found it fascinating. I’m not sure on what terms they came here but maybe this was part of why.
