On September 2, 1913 a woman boarded a small rowboat in the Hudson River and set out on a fishing trip. As she fished alone in the middle of the river, she suddenly felt something hit the side of her boat.
At first she thought it was probably just some driftwood, but then she took a closer look, and to her horror, she realized that what she was looking at was a human head. Over the next several days, more body parts would be discovered and the investigation into the murder would lead to an unlikely suspect…a local priest named Father Hans Schmidt. And the world was about to learn just how evil Father Hans really is.

He was not religious for religion’s sake. He was religious to get his mother’s attention.

John Wayne Gacy did charity work. Giving money to charity is just Hans laying down his outer persona, gaining trust of others and feeding his narcissism.

Priest didn't have an issue with him being interested in young boys but him messing up during the ceremony was the big issue sick smh

So, the dad was home often enough to get his wife pregnant 10 times, but not often enough to know his kids' names. Nice. 🙄

My mom grew up near Sing Sing, and she remembers the lights dimming every time someone was sent to the electric chair.

So, after killing Anna, Hans went to work and before he could return home and finish cleaning up the police found several packages in the river, figured out it belong to one person, found the shop that sold the pillow case, found the address, convinced the landlord and ckecked out the apartment. Then they read the letters, figure out where Hans worked and went there to question him. Wow! I wish police today worked this fast!

When I once asked my Catholic mother why she was attending messes so often, she admitted that those hours in church were the only time when none of us children (or her husband) were "bothering" her. It was like a "legitimate" break to her, because she had never have any breaks at all.....
She was a good mother and for sure not like Hans` mother, but being "religious" and attending churches was the only way to "escape" her hard life for a few moments ......

When Karl was mentioned, things made more sense. If a 7-10 year old is “experimenting sexually” it’s usually because he was abused. Karl probably started abusing him (maybe even causing him to bleed, which would explain the blood thing more).

Also, how many rooms did their house have? There’s 10 kids. There’s no privacy. Not sure if the parents had their own room. I’m sure he’s witnessed births and all sorts of things he shouldn’t have seen at a young age. Plus his abusive father. Abuse breeds abuse (not always, but it doesn’t come from nowhere).

Retired mental health RN here. No, I don't believe he was insane. He was able to appreciate the difference between right and wrong, and he freely chose to do evil. Hans was a psychopath -- very much like Jeffrey Dahmer. The association between killing, blood, and sex early in his life is a telling point.

Hey everyone, I’m reading the comments and realizing that the title is a little confusing. I chose 19th century because he was born in 1881. But I see how this reads wrong since he wasn’t ordained until the early 1900’s. I appreciate the feedback, and knowing me, I’ll end up changing the title altogether 😂

I had never heard of this very strange story. It just kept getting weirder and weirder by the minute! Great storytelling.

As a Catholic, i gotta say that his mother neglecting her children to pray and read is really NOT what church teaches to do. Doing all that while ignoring your God-given children is absolutely the opposite of what should be done, esp as a mom of 10!
I think her practice of religion was more about her mentally coping with what was going on around her and less about doing what Catholics are called to do.

I usually fast forward through ad reads but I actually enjoyed watching the honey drizzles 😂

I’ve always felt that anyone that does evil things has to be a little insane. However, Hans knew what he was doing. Look at all the things he got away with. He knew he was doing wrong, and did his best to keep it hidden. So he doesn’t get a pass for being “insane”. He made his choices, and had to pay.

9:24 He was trying to create a new disease with the rooster stunt...I think at that point, its beyond something any 'beating' could ever fix...

I love your videos. 90% I have not heard of these case is a plus. The only bad thing I want more. 😂 Great video

This was probably the time where dentist and surgeon had a lot of overlap. The first dental school was the Baltimore School of Dental Surgery and the American Society of Dental Surgeons was formed the same year (1840). Based on that, "dentist surgeon" was probably the whole title for the occupation

I'm truthfully shocked that he is the only priest sentenced to death in the US. We know that position of power has been used for evil many times, and I wouldn't be surprised to find out that there is a large sum of priests (and other religious leaders) who have killed before.
