I blame Mordecai's general lack of commitment. He lacked the courage to even ask out Margaret, and this caused him to self sabotage multiple times when he had the opportunity.

It's funny how people always rag on rigby for being an insecure loser

But heres the difference,rigby asked himself the necessary questions which lead to his character development while Mordecai just relied on rigby being worse to shield his own flaws

If CJ had friends outside of the park group, Mordecai would not have been able to play in her face as many times as he did because we all know that loyal friends are built-in scrub protection. She needed to be isolated for the sake of plot.

Also while I love crack ships, I feel like Mordecai x twilight sparkle wouldn’t work because if Mordecai cheated on her once, then all the ponies would unleash the power of friendship on him. Although that would be hilarious to see

Eileens the GOAT. Rigby found way more stability by being self assured compared to Mordecais insecurities and superiority complex.

I look at it like this, Mordecai had intelligence but no wisdom. He lacked emotional intelligence and that's why most of his relationships even his one with Rigby were always so rocky, he obsessed where there was no problem and he lashed out where he should've taken the time to understand. I believe Mordecai has seen this almost cohabitation of his parents marriage and I think he subconsciously tries and replicate them in his relationships but can't because he's not them, he has has his own anxieties that he grapples and deals with in his current position they didn't and can't relate to.

The ending of the show makes alot of sense when you really think about it, he needed to find himself and mature emotionally before he became the man he could've always been and was momentarily showcased at the very end of the show

Cj was such a cool character, she deserved so much better!

Yeah as sad as it is, CJ was just a rebound. I’ve seen it too many times in fiction and real life that people who are  still hung up on their ex and move on to someone who while objectively are more better for the person, things just don’t end up working out.

Not only that, but his treatment towards to Rigby. I know Rigby was just as a bad friend as Mordecai, but at least he mature more and got it together while Mordecai is stagnant. Mordecai is the type that complains how hard his life is, but once things are normal and everything is going his way, he immediately self sabotage.

As bad as Rigby was during the early seasons at least he actually stayed consistent to one person through the show  how was it the laziest one ended up having a more healthier relationship than him ❤❤

I feel like Mordecai experienced 2 very different kinds of relationships with both women. Mordecai is an example of how you can become “a nice guy” without even realising it.

With Margaret I believe he enjoyed the idea of her, chasing her, and saw her as an upgraded status symbol, than actually getting to know her as a person (Even though some of that is the writers fault as Margaret was written more as an object than an actual person until later seasons when they corrected this)

But with CJ he actually got to know her, became her friend first before dating her. I remember his dates with CJ being one of my fave episodes because mordecai just genuinely looked like he was having a good time, wasn’t nervous or awkward and loved her company. If he gave himself the space to fully get over Margaret and then date CJ. I think they would have really worked well together.

This is not to pit them against each other as some RS fans try to do (which almost always ends up misogynistic) I just liked CJ more because we just got to know her more.

But the relationship drama arcs of RS (although most people hate them) were one of my favourite arcs in RS because it was realistic, because whether people like to admit it or not these are parts of a young person’s life.
You experience different kinds of relationships and make the wrong decisions most of the time in an effort to be seen as “nice” or “good”.

When I was younger I loved Mordecai and I was mad at the finale but as I’ve gotten older I’ve realised the writers made the best decision by having him not end up with either! They both deserved better tbh 😂

It could just be me misremembering but I'm struggling to remember a time when CJ's freakouts were unwarranted. Like the helicopter thing was an accident but if you've literally seen your bf kiss this girl and assure you up and down it didn't mean anything only to still see him with her, it's going to sting.

I actually do think Mordecai liked CJ and they got along, but bc he never gave himself a chance to actually get over Margaret, he ended up torching his relationship with her only for him and Margaret to mutually agree their avoidant behaviour when it came to serious relationships means they won't really work together. Margaret symbolized a goal to him while Mordecai symbolized more commitment than her other dates. So they did the healing work at the expense of both CJ and her residual relevance to the show. While Mordecai's undeniably the worst of the three, the show making Margaret come back from college is the worst move they could have made for her bc of all the relationship drama it spawned. She thought he would have waited for her, found out he didn't and now they have to navigate that while treating CJ like a time bomb

Honestly seeing Rigby stepping up in comparison to Mordecai was really refreshing and shows what a relationship can be like without much drama
