i'll never get over tom breaking up with star because he wants to be with someone who's his best friend, then later telling Marco he's his best friend

It's ironic that Tom's relationship with the guy he hated was more enjoyable than the one he had with the girl he wanted to date.

Ah Starco, a ship so focused on the question of “Will they or Won’t they?” They forgot to ask themselves “Why should they?”

Fun fact: Tom's reason for breaking up with Star is because he wants to be with someone he's "best friends with". He says in the s3 finale directly Marco is his best friend. They also act like best friends being chaotic and goofy and enjoying each other's company during each subsequent episode leading to the series finale. So.

As someone who shipped these two before the show properly made them friends, for me it originally came from a place of "marco and tom getting along could be fun and interesting, a hot head being balanced by someone calm to help him learn and grow".

Tom was clearly a lonely kid who needed guidance,  what better relationship for him then  another lonely kid like marco who had patience and understanding?

Eventually the show leaned into that by marco knowing how to help and calm tom down, while giving them similar hobbies, showcasing tom admires marco, tom purposefully sacrifices himself for marco, ect ect

They felt good for each other, especially when it came to tom becoming a better person,  his care for marco is really well showcased.

It wasn't just fans doing it from spite.

Tom and Marco's friendship arc was one of my favorite things in SVTFOE, it was very interesting to see those two go from enemies, to frenemies, to a full-on bromance!

The thing with Star Vs is that basically every single ship deserved better. The show was a multishippers paradise once only for it to then go out of its way to destroy all of the chemistry between its cast to make way for Starco endgame, only oops it destroyed the chemistry there too by uprooting the charming friendship they had and making what should've been the easy and obvious romantic route still somehow feel forced.

Basically anyone who was interested in the shows romantic subplots got hit at some point.

I will never stop mentioning how sad and funny it is that Daron Nefcy made Tom as a culmination of all her terrible ex boyfriends but by the end of the series he is the only likable character of the main cast.

Star and Marco were SO much better with a sibling relationship. I hate when shows put two protagonists together simply because they’re a boy and a girl. Tom and Marco have SO much more chemistry in my opinion. We were robbed. They should’ve been endgame.

I really hated Star when Tom told her that he knew that she and Marco kissed and SHE GOT MAD AT HIM for not telling her about it sooner, like, GIRL, ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND???!!!??!

It's a truly BAD day as a show writer when your male lead has better romantic chemistry with your female lead's EX in a few episodes compared to multiple SEASONS with them. Not to mention said ex started out as abusive but grew and changed compared to them becoming worse by comparison.

TOMCO IN 2026. Oh I'm eating good at work.

Shows forcing a hetero ship so hard that the gay ship ends up having way better chemistry is my favorite trope

in the end, yaoi and yuri is what keep the internet together

Starco was more horrifying to me because I thought of Star and Marco as siblings before the romance jumpscared me when I was a kid.

I love how he decided to revive tomco on a random day

You can not underestimate the power of people to make a ship just to spite one another on Tumblr. It is so powerful!

@15:43 When PONYHEAD is the voice of reason you know shit has officially become seriously and royally fucked.

There was a very compelling theory on the fan wiki that broke down how Marco was a descendant of the original rulers of Mewni and how by marrying him, Star would be legitimized as queen. Now I'm thinking how interesting that would've been if he ended up with Tom, showing how Mewnans and monsters can coexist and find genuine line with each other, especially as queer rep. It was never gonna happen but a man can dream. A man can dream...

22:42 and realizing sometimes people are gay.. It's hysterical most still think of queer ships as "fanfic content" or "just cuz it's funny/least bad option" or a separate genre.. It works regardless. People be gay. Let characters be gay too 🙄
