Margaret should have just been Mordecai's crush that he put on a pedestal too much, and have the sweater episode be her last appearance; she didn't need to come back. It's okay to have a flat, simple character and not use them again if their role is to serve one role for an arc and be nothing more. Not every character needs complexity or lore
I realized how Margaret was such a Mary-Sue, it was hard to tell if Mordecai either lost interest in her and still thinking about her and being denial about it when he was supposed to move on with CJ but for sure it was a slap in the face in "Just Friends" where Mordecai had the moment with Margaret after he and CJ broke up and even after the build up, they just decided to stay just friends and they don't get together at all. It's like the writers couldn't make up their minds.
This is why I have such a love-hate relationship with Mordecai in Regular Show. Seriously, this boy will put you through trials as an audience member by constantly testing your patience. Rigby, Muscle Man, Starla, and of course CJ all deserved better from him.
They were way too forgiving, because what he did at their graduation and wedding would have made me completely cut off the friendship.
Just imagine graduating with your bachelor’s degree or getting married, and instead of your friend being genuinely happy for you and celebrating your accomplishment, they somehow make the entire situation about themselves and their own problems. That moment should have been about them! They deserved to have their happy moment to themselves, but Mordecai took the spotlight away from them by making everything about his own emotional problems. I was so upset watching those episodes.
Honestly, I’m not surprised they forgave him so easily because they had such long histories with him. But personally, I would have been extremely upset. I would have had to tell him, “You’re not being a good friend right now.” I’m not saying I would necessarily end the friendship, because I understand that Rigby and Muscle Man had a long history with Mordecai, but I would definitely have called him out for being selfish and taking away their happy moments.
And when it comes to CJ, it’s even worse. I felt so bad for her throughout my time watching the series. Mordecai didn’t just hurt and betray her; he was also playing with her feelings because he couldn’t figure out his own emotions and romantic mess. To me, that was incredibly manipulative behavior.
I genuinely feel bad for CJ because I see her as someone who got caught in the middle and ended up being hurt because Mordecai couldn’t get himself together. Honestly, CJ was the true victim of that whole mess, and I hated how the show tried to paint her as the villain or make her seem like she was simply overreacting because of her anger and temper.
Like, people really have the nerve to say that CJ overreacted or had trust issues with Mordecai. But honestly, how can you blame her for reacting the way she did after everything that he put her through with Margaret? Mordecai repeatedly put her in situations where her trust in him was being tested. Of course she was going to have doubts and wonder, “Is something going to go wrong again?” or “Should I prepare myself for the worst?”
That doesn’t make CJ a bad person. It makes her someone who had been hurt and was struggling to trust someone who had already given her reasons to be cautious and doubtful of him. I honestly don’t blame CJ for her reactions at all. What bothered me was how the show sometimes seemed to frame her anger as the problem instead of acknowledging WHY she was angry in the first place.
I especially hated how her anger and temper were used to make her look like the villain when, from my perspective, a lot of that anger came from being hurt, betrayed, and confused by Mordecai’s actions. She deserved more understanding and empathy than she got.
That’s one of the biggest reasons I had such a hard time with Mordecai. I don’t necessarily think he was a bad person, but his choices could be incredibly selfish and frustrating, especially when other people were the ones paying the emotional price for his indecisiveness. He really had a talent for making everyone around him suffer while he tried to figure himself out.
She's not an important love interest. Mordecai screwed everything up with his inability to just even try to talk to her.
Margaret is not a prize and she doesn't owe Mordecai anything.
That whole thing with who was the demonstrate that your first love may not be your only love and it may not work out.
That bird was always getting in his own way and I'm sick of everyone always acting like if Margaret did Mordecai earlier things would be better, but it wouldn't.
Mordecai had no spine, he had no ability to just get over himself in addition to just being a phoney nice guy
this might be an unpopular take but this i think tends to get blown out of proportion way too much. The reality is she wasn't at fault for most of mishaps. I mean think about it, mordo had plenty of chances to make a move but was always insecure and even after breaking up. She was very reluctant on dumping him too and broke down knowing how much it would hurt for him and her and who knows how long she had known she'd been accepted and may have wanted to take time to process it all before breaking the ice and then returning a year later she did her best to be supportive of mordecai's new relationship with CJ and even said she was glad for him and both equally had the same amount of kissing as both were too caught up in the moment. Tbh we all knew she was going to come back at some point cause she wasn't gonna be in school forever and here family and friends (especially her best friend Eileen the same being besties the same way Mordecai and Rigby are) were all where we she originated.
Also in the chopper party CJ TOLD mordecai to go and have fun as he was unsure about attending due to wanting to stay committed to her and he didn't even want to go in the chopper and only did so cause he was flattered that Margaret's father said he was a son to him even though they were no longer bf and gf by then i mean how tf can you say no when you get that kind of a compliment from an ex girlfriends father? And later when she lied about having a boyfriend, she had no choice because she was literally dangling from the helicopter a good 100+ ft above the ground and her parents even fell overboard a split second earlier but luckily landed in the pool instead on the cement to cushion their fall and they came out without a scratch cause of that. Normally i wouldn't condone lying about such a thing but she literally had no choice since she was holding on for dear life!!!!!!
I get people might not like her as a character i mean hell yea she wasn't the flashiest and i don't like but don't dislike her either but these false perceptions and over exaggerations of her can be frustrating to hear because it tends to turn into an unfair opinionated fest rather than factual analyzing. It shouldn't be about liking or disliking its about being factual.
