“We’re a family”   Big red flag

Worked 32 different jobs over 20 years. Mostly garbage jobs that could careless about their employees. Working such job right now.

Tbh if they skip interviews thats a Red flag imo. In my experience, you always find possible deal breakers, and important info during orientation when they do

My son was getting ready for an interview and came out of his bedroom in a suit. I raised an eyebrow and asked where are you interviewing?  He said a local factory, school had taught the kids to dress up. I told him but you have to dress according to the job as well. This factory you work with metal, extreme heat and paint. So I helped him pick out a  clean t-shirt a casual button up shirt (unbuttoned)  nice jeans and his work boots. He literally  could have wore dirty jeans and a stained t-shirt to this factory and got hired. They probably would hire the stained t-shirt and dirty jeans before the suit. I mostly go by what you would wear for the job itself just slightly nicer

"these days, not using an IDE shows ignorance and inefficiency"

It did then, too.

If they offer you the job during the interview. That  can mean multiple bad things such as:
1. Turnover for that job is really high cause its awful.
2. They don't care about who takes the job. They just need bodies. Expect to be treated as replaceable.
3. Theyre likely running a shady bussiness like a MLM or something.

I'll never forget an interview with a company in my home town.  The company's head office was in Germany.  The position I was being interviewed for was a purchasing clerk.  In the course of the interview it was mentioned that "some" of my duties would involve translating documents from head office into English for management.  An interpreter/translator would have been earning around $50,000 per year in that market - a purchasing agent earned around $24,000.  When I asked for a "ballpark" percentage of my duties that would require translations I was told "roughly" 75%!  Noped right outta there!

When I worked somewhere and on my first day the boss got upset when I tried to read - NOT EVEN READ SKIM threw the little page of paper with info on the job and earning and benefits ~ I thought : I don’t think I wanna be here long lol

The interviewer started with:
“Now I want you to know, this job will be like your family.”
I respond with
“So dysfunctional, drugs and alcohol, barely speaking to each other and terrible communication skills and only liking one person as a whole and hating the rest?”
The interviewer stared blankly at me unsure what to say.

How did he not report the sweat shop? He basically let major criminals continue victimizing people.

Honestly im really disgusted how the US treats felons. Why does it even matter. No workers? But we still wont hire those MILLIONS of people who are left chanceless in life and do anything to be productive and get a straight live.

43:00 "That professor was a frickng moron."  This got him the job, but everybody tells you NEVER bad mouth anyone.  You're only projecting your failing onto them.

Applied for a security job in Isle OF Dogs BACK IN 2018. I received a replay in May of 2019. I attended. The operations manager decided to make fun of the interviewees while I was in the room to another manager. After filling out the paperwork, I left and decided not to get back to them. If she's willing to make fun of the interviewees behind their backs, I don't even want to think of what she'd be saying about me. I feel like I dodged a bullet.

1:46:04 I can't stop laughing. This has to be one of the best job interview stories I have ever heard.

During my interview, my employer showed me the other applicants resumes and then proceeded to talk about an autistic ex-employees breakup and how he was always crying on the job and eventually quit. All I could do was look at him bewildered. What has this got to do with my application and responsibilities? I got the job and was given an unsteady locker to put my things in. On the locker was a list of names all crossed out of the previous employees (I later saw for myself how many employees come and went, one guy only lasted at the job a day). This locker was in the "employees lounge" which was a filth-ridden 1m-5m plank of wood in a hollow behind the stock shelves right by the two garage door and right next to all the main electrics. Below the electrics was the kettle set on the grimiest double cabinet with a spoon that was glued to the surface with filth.  That's not even the worst. Mice would come in and eat at the stock. They especially loved the bread. We once had a bird shit-ridden pallet of Lucozade bottles. Delivery of the pallet was accepted and then never cleaned and sold with the stock.

We would be spied on constantly like a hawk on CCTV. They would watch to see if you were 5 seconds late and make a massive deal about it if you were. I left 5 minutes early one time because all my duties were finished, and my friend was waiting. He later asked me "what's more important? Your friends or your job?".
I was eventually fired for arriving at 07:00 on the dot. He didn't like that I made a point of coming in on time when I rode in with my colleague in the mornings. "It's funny how he shows up minutes before you do but you come in the same car?" he scolded once, and I just replied casually "No, not really" and showed him the time on my phone which read 07:00. "I'm on time". It turned into an argument and I called him a "miserably old cunt" while handing in my contract which he have only just given to me to four months into my employment. Underneath my signature on the contract I had written my resignation.

Applied for a cashier job at department store in the mall - part time, great for college scheduling... ext min wage. Go to interview was told the position was not for a cashier but for sales in the jewelry department. $4/hr +commission (which is why they could offer less than min wage), required mon -fri, set schedule and one weekend day (so could be scheduled for 12 days straight with no breaks which technically was illegal), unable to adjust shifts due to class schedule,  and since technically part time no benefits. I said thank you and that wasn't what I was looking for.  Got a call the next day with a your interview was great can you start tomorrow? I complained about the bait and switch interview and was told the original position had been filled, so they just sent the applications that came in to the other departments that had openings.

"We're looking for someone to save our firm"

This was for an entry level reception/office administrator position paying 40k Canadian

I had 5 interviews for a lab/engineering job at a big company (two phone calls  with the job agency recruiter, then HR team, then engineering team having to answer complex questions and solve different tasks, then the main boss who did not know what both of us had left to discuss about). Around 4-5hours in total. Only then I was offered a pay of £19k (which is I guess a minimum pay in the UK). No chance of progress, no help with college I was doing at the time. I was actually expected to quit college, so I would not have any options but to slave away working for them. Work for pennies, abandon all dreams and ambition. I got frustrated at the end and was eventually told me doing college and being ambitious was a hardcpass for them. Till this day I am mad about the 4 hours of my time I lost because of them.  Fkrs.

Always remember:
An applicant that admits not knowing can be trained.
An applicant that makes up some bullshit answer might cause trouble later.

Unless you're applying for some shady sales job, then your ability to bullshit might be something they're looking for.

Had an interview to be a developmental editor for a publisher - they wanted experience, not someone who just had a degree and I have 12+years of experience. It went well, but they picked someone who had more experience in the end, so Im still freelance, and Ill keep getting more experience.
