I hate world level scaling. Do you?

There truly is nothing I despise more than level scaling.

World level scaling is so dumb that I honestly thought it was a joke when I first heard about it

Oh god, I bounced off Oblivion so hard due to it, their system was so fucked up on launch day, even worse than JUST world level scaling because it only took into account your main skills, my sneaky lockpicking thief couldn't exit the sewers because I'd get insta-destroyed by the mudcrabs outside due to them having leveled up by me picking locks and sneaking in the intro. I barely managed to get into town but couldn't get too far into the game because I got oneshot by everything and everything was just outpacing me greatly. I ended up making another character and intentionally picking stills as main that I would never use and staying level 1, made the entire game a cakewalk and I quickly got bored and never went back to it. Neither experience was really all that fun.

I do not like systems, that scale with the player.
Enemies should only ever be as tough as they're supposed to be.
And the player has to be good enough to deal with it.

When world scales from your level that is obviously stupid, but when world scales from story progression it is much better

when there is level scaling, there is no leveling

This can be good, just don't make a leveling system at all and properly scale the world around your base level. But that means no progression . . .

I should be able to go to a crazy high level zone with skulls next to enemy health bars and painstakingly chip away at the zone until i can access loot way higher level than i have any right to have if i want.

In cyberpunk you progress much faster than the enemies, even in very hard mode, a level 1 player facing the cops, level 30, and level 60 player have a day and night difference, the level 60 player essentially being able to take on endless boss level squads with ease, a level 40 player cant do that. Some scripted events are made harder though, still not to the same extent as your character

I had this option on in the Witcher 3 for a good while. I thought "This is great! I can always be gaining good amounts of xp so I wont have to farm for xp later (if needed)". But then there was a quest where I had to go through a sewer full of rats, like 30 or so rats that were all the same level as me, and that made those rats tanky as fuck. I was literally stuck there for like 30 or so minutes. I didn't think that they were supposed to be lower level because I'd been playing with enemies always at my level. I then turned off the setting, and they were all level 5 or something. Slayed them all in one hit each. Turned the option back on afterwards, but was more aware of turning it on and off as I went lol.

Some may see it as going backwards, but I actually agree.
I love my RPG games, even though Bethesda and Obsidian aren't the same companies anymore and will probably kill my childhood.
But I am hard on this stance. I think areas should have specific levels like old MMOs and RPGs.

I don't play games with level scaling

thats why i never played anything after Morrowind!

Across the whole game no there should always have lower level areas , higher level areas on the other hand light scaling like a level or so behind the player you can level passed it , End game areas set at a very high level and be a level or two above player to give them something to chase to there will be a place the can fight back and ya know give a little wiggle room for DLC or Expansion , blood hell I be yapping .

I played trough oblivion on lv2 because it was no point to level up except for the enemies to become more difficult to defeat.

Level scaling ruins any impression of progress...  One of the most stupid logics implemented in the game....

In skyrim I leveled lockpicking and pickpocketing to lvl 100 in the first village I found.
