We are in the slop era. My God nvidia totally ruined PC gaming in just a couple years.
1080TI days were legendary

Tbf, the Fox engine was killer for the time too...

The Frostbite engine in Battlefront 2 was impressive and super optimized.

Kojima Productions has a team dedicated to engine development and optimization, probably including some of the same people who previously worked on developing and optimizing the Fox Engine.

That said, as you suggest, at the end of the day the problem we’re seeing nowadays may not necessarily be Unreal Engine itself, but rather the lack of dedicated optimization and engine customization to suit each individual project.

Developers were sold the idea of a “magical” engine that could easily make almost any game possible. But in practice, it’s becoming increasingly clear that simply using UE doesn’t eliminate the need for extensive engine-level work and optimization.

Programmers matter more, rather than powerful hardware.   The best thing for old videogames is just plugging the AV cord on the TV and playing games, making it work .  No RTX and other BS system requirements required.

What can i say the fun fact at the end, he went absolute jimmy neutron with his research

if you play MGS Phantom Pain today on PS5, you dont even think it was developed for the Old Gen.
Meanwhile you have games developed for PS5 and still look like PS4 games.
Talented devs will always find a way to make the difference. I wish Kojima would make Next Gen Fox Engine.

That last scene you put in, chef's kiss in meme expression.

I just started playing DS1 yesterday on my 2gb vram igpu and it gives me 55 avg fps on medium settings
Yeah it brought tears to my eyes😭😭

Décima also means 10th

The correct title should be: Developer utilize Decima engine to the hardware limits.

bro is giving us absolute cinema videos every 3 days 🙌

Gabe and his people understand hardware, Kojima and his people understand software, am I the only one that wants to see them get together and make something. Imagine what Kojima could do with Valve's engine, and since Valve has now expanded into console market, Kojima Studios would be good experience.

Kojima and his team built the Fox Engine, then helped improve Decima; perhaps he'll made OD on UE5 and have time to help build UE6 for Physint

It's almost like people who know what they are doing and have an incentive can do some pretty impressive things.

I can't believe we live in a time that companies that don't want to retain people use commercial engines like unreal, and companies that do want to retain people to use proprietary engines are forced not to

did you ever hear about cry engine on crysis 1 back in 07? this was the peak of engine tweaking

I dont hate UE5 personally. I think its a great game engine. The problem is actually the developers who thi k it will do everyrhing for them. Granted the engine is kinda marketed that way but still.

There are many well optimized UE5 games out there where the devs didnt let the engine optimize for the. Rather they optimized their game themselves.

Ghost of Dojima is coming mates

It's not even pushing the hardware beyond it's limits, it's just very efficiently using what's given to it, which neither Unity nor Unreal Engine (which sadly most games utilize) do.
The engine just properly utilizes all CPU cores (while Unreal Engine is still mostly single-threaded, at least for it's most crucial components) and it uses heavily optimized render targets and textures for the specific target hardware (which no other engine does currently).
