Would gladly pay extra tax for that better social care. Peace of mind for me and more importantly my mum. I also pray I never need it

NHS has worked for Norway just fine. Imagine a second COVID without it

I've always said, and I'm a 67 year old pensioner but years before I became a pensioner I said I'd happily pay a few more pennies for a better life for the many instead of the few, why is it that its always the wealthy telling us how drastic it would be to pay a extra 4 pence per week which, let's be honest, is nothing it's the wealthy scared of the amount they have to pay which they resent because its coming to support us all instead of their own

Burnham is right, we are already paying for social care as a country through unnecessary use of nhs beds

With people having to sell their houses to fund care , what happens when property prices crash?

Nigel Farage reminds me of that Not The Nine O' Clock News sketch, that has gone around on the YT, about a copper who keeps arresting one man, one charge, amongst all the others over a very short period of time, that "he smelt of foreign food".

The problem with the calculation that 53% of the population take more from society than add to society is that the numbers are based upon person tax tax verses cost to the government for your lifetime.

It fails to show the social capital that a person adds to the community through their work.

An NHS worker gives more to society than a factory worker.

But the factory worker helps to create the products and profits of the business.

It would be too complicate to add this all together but even if you take into account the corporation taxes paid per employee at a national level this would significantly reduce this figure.

We are not in that bad a situation and if done at a. Individual level it would amount to some people at a lower level actually being a massive positive to the country and some executives and billionaires being a negative.

It would not be politicly toxic if the tax would be put on the wealthy and not on the regular wage earner.

Why not invest in children care and old people will always be better cared for in their families with some help.

You the best bruv 🤝

Social carers don’t get time to move between patients, we need to pay these people for travel between patients. Give them/pay them time to travel to next patient- obvious tbh.

If there was a prize,
I wasn't going to win it !

Australia has Medicare covering everyone for doctors bills & public hospitals. (not all doctors or specialists do bulk billing to the govt. but you can generally find a doctor who does) Approx. 2 1/2% of taxable income. We also have NDIS to assist people with disabilities who require special services. Regardless of income people needing medical assistance or emergency care, don't have the added worry of how to pay. Like any insurance you hope you won't need to use it but it's reassuring when you or your family members do the service is there.

Almost everyone will have a friend or family member who will need social care at some point, whether in old age or due to an accident or illness, any decent person would gladly pay extra to ensure they are taken care of, as it could just as easily be yourself one day.

Well done to her She's our national hero.

I think nearly everybody will depend on the  n h s for themselves or their family at some point in their lives. Similarly, social care. What sort of society are we if we can't care for our most vulnerable members? At the moment care is a racket exploited by wealthy individuals and companies for profit, often run on a shoestring to maximise profits. Other European countries don't seem to have a problem with paying taxes to collectively care for society's most vulnerable members, which may well one day  be ourselves, as well as our beloved family members.

Omg really, giving kids a chance is magical, hope every kid gets that chance, my 3 kids did weekend work during studies from 16, football ground kiosks, labourer, Superdrug. (Put them at the coal face young 😂) it taught them to deal with people, time keeping, & the buzz you get from working for a pay cheque however small.  They are high flyers now in various sectors, magic.

Public services do need to improve, but it's delusional to think things will get better without raising taxes for high and mid-high earners.

Brilliant take on Brexit, exactly right ✅️ 👏

How many red ties did GB borrow? Alistair Campbell has a similar story but didn't get his back.
