HOLY REFRESH PULL

Imaginal disk is a conceptual album, the story follows a character named True, who undergoes a procedure in which an alien “Imaginal Disk” (which is like a cd) is implanted into her forehead to turn her into an idealized version of herself. When her body rejects the implant, she is forced to rediscover her authentic self, questioning the allure of perfection, technology, and external validation. The album’s title also references the biological imaginal discs that allow caterpillars to transform into butterflies, making metamorphosis its central metaphor. Through futuristic storytelling, dreamlike visuals, and emotionally rich synth-pop, Magdalena Bay suggests that genuine growth comes not from becoming someone else, but from embracing one’s own imperfect humanity.

I was hoping you would react to this! This is my favorite album, and I think should be in discussion with the best albums of all time

Album ages like a fine wine. My favorite songs have changed after almost every listen.

Great to see another angel on a satellite appreciator. That’s easily a top 5 song on the album

you should have a listen to all of the singles they have released since this album. they are all amazing!

Cry for me was inspired by ABBA, specifically Matt said Dancing Queen

This album might not give you a "canon event", but it is a big grower of an album. With every listen, the album grows. Some albums have a very strong immediate gratification, like Quadeca albums for example, whereas other ones will start of decent but get stronger each listen.

Literally my favorite album oat

Just got home from a looonggg day at work. Me and my joint are gonna enjoy this one😩 One of my fav albums ty for blessing my day today

You definitely need to check out A Collection of Singles from them. The concept and album art is around the times of the day, Night, First Light, Day, and Sunset.

Album is an absolute instant classic. Will go down in the history books without a doubt.

One thing about Imaginal Disk that is never captured in first reactions is its room for growth. At first I feel like the brilliance of it, particularly in its themes and especially its instrumental can be missed on first listen. In the case of the instrumental i really think its so complex and jammed with sound that given a few more listens more detail begins to pop out, at least in my experience picking out things like individual synths becomes much easier and it definitely elevates it

I’VE BEEN WAITING SO MUCH FOR THIS

Oh man 2024 was such a good year for music. Got this album and Submarine by The Marias (which I hope you react to someday) that year.
Saw both of them on tour and would def recommend.

man I forgot how much I loved this album, thanks for the reminder! love ur reactions

I had the same feeling for Angel on a Satellite - I’m pretty sure that passage sounds like Torn by Natalie Imbruglia. I was thinking some of Norah Jones’ stuff too, both great 00’s singer songwriters.

This album stands far above and beyond what I’d expect from two people. Every single big and exciting moment just gets bigger and grander, but they perform the small intimate parts so well too.

I was floored when I heard this and glad you were too.

Angel on a Satellite forever

BEST ALBUM EVER AND NOTHING WILL CHANGE MY MIND
