Before it became a meme, “Christian Girl Autumn” was a very real 2010s internet aesthetic: chunky sweaters, infinity scarves, brown boots, felt hats, pumpkin patches, Starbucks, fallen leaves, and the quest for the perfect autumn photo. But how did this wholesome, feminine style become synonymous with being “basic”? We’re going back to the 2010s to look at the rise of autumn culture on social media and how this style soon became a seasonal symbol.

There's also a billion girls in the south. It's so densely populated with girls with money to burn and tons of social events and a mild winter so the outfits are like October - April

The Summerween trend has taken over social media (coined by "Gravity Falls", that one episode). It's a mix of both Halloween and summer vibes, but with bright colors, corporate minimalism and overconsumption. Halloween is supposed to be haunting and dark colors such as red, black, violet and orange. Not those... Whatever that is. Just to embarrass the kids and traumatized for life watching horror movies

Looking at these pictures now as an adult, what I really hate about the 2010s is because of bullying in class. I slowly began to hate being young and forced to grow up so fast, thanks to those kids who ruined my life. Should I go back to being a little kid? Reset the time, fix things and start over again? I have a disdain for kids and teens around my age as my inner demons, fantasizing myself with violent thoughts like a strict teacher carrying a stick around. What if I forced myself to wear clothes and dress up like those girls? I don't have enough money and I can't afford a trip just to see Comic Con or any live events there. As a Filipina, I just pretend I'm there in my imagination or want to go to my own personal heaven instead (just like those aesthetics, if it was "real")

I was in college at this time, in West Virginia, while very involved in campus ministry. You can BET I dressed this way during the fall. Miss it a bunch. I was cute and powerful. Now I live in Texas, and it wouldn't hit the same.

So it used to be southern former sorority girls blogging and on Pinterest (of course they're Christian)? I feel like the Utah Instagram influencers took over...

But THE filter though...Ugh. I swear it was used year-round instead of just during the autumn.

People making fun of this aesthetic back in the day was not because of misogyny. This was just people being mean to each other and wanting to “be different“. It was both men and women who were making jokes about this aesthetic. Because there was a male equivalent to this as well that was being memed .

Also, fashion is cyclic.
