The quality of your reviews are definitely the best. Thank you for your effort.

The Viwoods AI Paper Mini has been absolutely incredible for studying, especially with the AI integration and being able to pre-configure AI prompts in the Learning section. I can highlight something, point to my pre-configured prompt and it moves it to Gemini 3 Pro to explain big concepts to me without having to re-write the prompts every single time. I started with the AI Paper Reader and loved it so much that a week later I bought the Mini LOL...Now that I have the Mini, I want the AI Paper too 😂😂😂 Such an amazing product.

A point of interest that is rarely (never?) mentioned about these e-ink tablets is the file system and file management; Specifically the management of your notes.  In short, Supernote Manta/Nomad win hands-down in managing your notes and, in particular, with regard to expanded storage.

Your Boox notes are NOT stored as individual files, hence why it is so difficult to copy/move them to the internal expanded storage (if available, as in the Note Air 5c/4c/3c).  Boox notes, while graphically represented as individual "files", are actually stored in a SQL database.  You can export a "note" to a .PDF file on expanded internal storage or a cloud medium and you can even export a .note format file externally, albeit you may have trouble reading it back in.  Bottom line is, the internal expanded storage on a Boox device, if available, is really only good for storing books and, with some difficulty, .PDF files.  Your notes are kept in a hidden SQL database and are not easily accessible from anywhere else.   This is why it is so important to export your 'notes' to an 'editable PDF' format.  That way, you can use the "open with" option to open and continue to edit the actual file with all the markup data included.  Otherwise, you'll be limited to the NeoReader app for viewing/managing that content.

In sharp contrast, Ratta has designed their notes app such that it creates real, individual files for each of your notes.  Those files can easily be copied or moved to external storage (i.e. Google Drive) or an internal MicroSD device.   The use of real files for your notes also makes it much more straight forward when syncing notes across two devices (e.g. Manta to Nomad and back).

Both Boox and Supernote leverage a heavily modified Android operating system, but only the Supernote products make note file management something that most customers would recognize as generally familiar.   Boox manages your notes within the confines of a single SQL database and frankly, provide no real SQL tools for managing that database content other than their graphical representation of the content and a backup option for the database.   The importance of these differences between  "note" management on the Supernote and Boox devices should not be understated.

I love my remarkable pro and move (I don’t use my RM2 anymore)

Interesting exercise, and sharp analysis.  The more I see reviews of new devices coming out, the more I respect what reMarkable got so right with the rM2 I have and that I still love using.  I think I'm going to finally press the button on the Note Max tomorrow after days of flipping between Note Max and Supernote A5X2.  I just wish reMarkable would launch a "power pro" version of the Paper Pro that had more processing power, maybe even A4 screen, and more integration with google play and internet access.  But I guess it would break the brand thesis around flow and focus, and slow productivity.  I just find myself loving the experience on a reMarkable, but not quite able to get my work out of that device to where it needs to go next without loads of friction.

Good video: but sure comparing all of them in one group is the best approach; unless you are saying pick one only that can do your specific use cases and no other. Ideally, picking an ecosystem like Supernote, BOOX or Remarkable or some cases mix and match

I'm still waiting for the Remarkable Paper Pure to appear in one of these lists....  🙂

Hey kit …pretty iconic guy you are …the raspy reviewer of tech …..I need to know this! as an illustrator I want big screen there’s no Supernote x4 so I’m really considering the Boox max ….what is it like to draw on ?    Would love a video on best big eink to draw on…thnx

I want the Manta but it's out of my budget, especially with a case and pen.

Never owned an e-ink writing tablet but have been watching your videos/researching for months.

Now wondering if the RM Paper Pure is a possibility as I don't want Android (prefer as distraction free as possible) but note the RM Paper Pure doesn't make top ten despite your positive review earlier in the week.

How big is the gap between RM Paper Pure and the Manta?

Hi
I wondered if you could help guide me in a decision. I've watched your 10.3 lumi reviews with interest and fully appreciate the honest user experience feedback.
In mycase I have a limited budget, and could realistically afford the 10.3 lumi or the viwoods aipaper.
I know you have reviewed both and both are in the top 10, although no recent review of the viwoods since the 10.3 gen2 landed;  so would appreciate your candid feedback and comparison.
My primary envisaged goal would be note taking (for work) and long form prose (I will one day publish a book). I am keen to utilize handwriting to text functionality, access kindle books, and access the web for research.
I appreciate Viwoods may benifit from non active pen, but the boox has the front light.
Any insight you could give between them would be appreciated.
Cheers

God save the King! Supernote Manta!💪

It is always tricky to build such a list, since everyone has different needs. A few thoughts, however :
1) I believe that your evaluation should take into consideration the maturity of the software. If you look at the iFlytec AI Note 2, which I bought, tried, and returned a few days later, the hardware is just magical. But the software is very immature, lacks functionalities (note taking functionalities are very poor compared to the Viwoods AiPaper, for instance ; exporting notes out of the device is buggy like crazy, etc...). If you were doing so, then the iFlytek Note 2 could technically not be ranked #4. That's a fact.
2) I feel that there are far too many Boox devices on this list : 4 out of ten. The Tab XC, for instance, is for a very niche market that wants to use a full tablet functional scope, but how many people actually want this ? How many users actually use an eInk device to work with Excel or Powerpoint ? If this is your use case, wouldn't you rather choose a traditional LCD tablet ? I am not even mentioning the price point, which is ridiculous.
3) In order to provide your viewers with additional decision-making data points, you could create a Top 10 (or Top 5) by primary use case. Examples : Note Taking, Reading and functionalities + integration.
4) reMarkable needs to receive a yellow flag - not because of the devices they sold, but because of their financial situation and the possibility for them not to survive their current crisis : would you invest in a +/- 900 EUR Paper Pro bundle if there is a risk that the company disappears short term ?
Thanks again for sharing your views and tests. I am addicted to eInk devices as well, and watch your channel quite often...

One thing I have noticed in a lot of these youtube videos is that people tend to compare these devices for not just note taking but epub and how good pictures look on them. I think these devices really are intended first and foremost for note taking, and that really should be the primary criteria to judge them on. Note taking, handwriting, getting data in and out, note and information management and organization (a big one in my opinion) should be the main focus of these reviews. Sure some of these devices can read epubs and pdfs, but if that's what you wanted, get a kindle or a ipad. They do a much better job. As far as drawing tools, I kind of put that under the note taking since you need that flexibility to add to your notes. I'm just a little annoyed that so much emphasis is put on epub and pdf reading on these things. It's not really what they were designed for, that's why its kind of an afterthought for most of these devices.

Boox 10.3 gen 2 over gen 1?

I bought a Manta last week and I was afraid you would have changed your mind! I love my e-ink tablet.

💤💤💤💤💤💤💤💤💤💤💤💤💤💤💤💤💤💤😴

So all that monotone talking and you really didn't come up with a definite opinion or discernible reasons (maybe I got lost in your droning on and not looking at the camera) . Perhaps you are a good reviewer...but it was totally lost on me.

If you need a note-taking focused eink tablet, Supernote is your best option.

If you want a note taking device on steroid, iflytek it is. Iflytek full potential is locked behind paid subscription though but i think average users can get by no issue whatsoever.

If you want a multipurpose device with note taking first and everything else second, Boox it is.

After all that, then decide on the size that you're comfortable with.

!! The remarkable paper pure didn't even make it on the list 🥲 I guess I'll have to get manta eventually
