I really like my Remarkable 2, asking for a monthly subscription to search your own notes? That just doesn't sit right with me... In this video, share what I found when I went searching for something better.

Subscriptions are out of control now. Paying monthly to search your own notes? On a $400 device! That sentence sickened me.

I switched entirely to stone tablets and a chisel

"Am I compensating for my lack of self control by getting an expensive device instead?" I didn't need that drive-by

jesus. I've been eyeing the remarkable for a while. The prize was pretty steep, but thought that might be a good investment. The subscription thing was a nail in the coffin. I don't even want to deal with a company that came up with that. Cloud storage and extra features aside the fact that SEARCH, a basic offline feature isn't included makes it a brick by default. You can never know when the company goes bankrupt and you're just screwed.

This video convinced me to stick to pen and paper, thanks.

i am more impressed at how u could catch my short attention span for the whole video! Honestly this comment may not be about the topic you discussed but honestly, I can't help appreciating talented people

I got a Boox Note Air 5C two weeks ago, and I still can't get over how big of an upgrade it is over anything. Write notes, annotate books, do exercises in a pdf workbook, seamlessly. Even the AI features [I hate AI] like scribble over something to erase it just feel so natural. The whole UI is really well thought out - little things like when you finish a book it gives you a list of "adjacent" books so you can just continue to the next part with one click instead of having to close the current book and then fight the UI to find the next part. Loving it so far and using it daily. And with my ADHD where I have a PILE of technology shit I used for two or three days and then into the drawer it went never to be touched again - that says a LOT.

I’ve had the Remarkable 2 for a year now. Early on, I used it regularly for sales presentations and note-taking, but over time it started collecting dust. The friction of navigating between notes pushed me back to a physical notebook flipping pages is just faster and more mentally fluid. I still bring it out of the house occasionally, though I rarely revisit those notes afterward. These days it’s mostly a PDF reader and document signing tool. If navigation were snappier, I’d probably reach for it more. The writing experience itself is genuinely great though.

The best one is the one you always use.

I ended up settling on an iPad mini with a paperlike surface cover. I use OneNote... it's old school, but I can access all my notes from any device. The size is good, the writing experience is natural and there are no monthly fees.

It's not fair to compare $500+ tablets to a $270 one, you should've gotten all wothin same price range, Boox will definitely offer you much more at that price

Amazon has salted the field for Kindle owners.
I would never give them money for one again.

Retired, generation Jones guy here. Since the 80's we were sold the idea of the paperless office, but even as more and more communication and storage switches to a digital world, we kept generating more and more paper. It never slowed in my 35 years of work.

Thank you, a coworker had the Supernote, it was awesome and yes, you can use it at night. I'm definately passing now on the Amazon, I need it for work and need something thats gonna be useful. Great review!

Welcome to the world of Supernote Betty!
That writing feel will become your favourite, I'm willing to bet! And yep, ceramic nibs with buttons. Wacom have us covered for that, I've been testing one which mysteriously just says "Designed in Tokyo" on it. 🙂

You can pry fountain pens and calligraphy nibs and premium notebooks out of my cold, dead hands.

Supernote Nomad is more portable (smaller). I use mine mostly as a scratch pad to track my work and "journal" my workday. I use the term "journal" extremely loosely. The Heart of Metal pen works great but is a bit heavy for the pen holder, so it flops around a bit. And, I'm back to my Field Notes. Dang! That was an expensive journey.
