Imagine if this bs was the norm in the anime world, no good manga adaptations and only anime with pure made up filler, I doubt people would use the argument that they prefer new things that have nothing to do with the original story, plus making use of time travel and multiverses which are the laziest tropes to solve stories...
The same applies to book adaptations, people usually value when an adaptation is faithful, not when everything is changed and on top of that with misleading advertising.
Curiously enough, the adaptation of Pluto, which was 100% faithful to the manga, was highly valued, how strange that I didn't see anyone complaining about seeing the same thing as the manga... that's where that silly argument falls apart.
