Also important fun fact about the game. Tracks are in sync, if you do not fail you will literally go perfectly together with the music. It's insane.

I will note, in VR. There is no wheel, no arms, no chair. Just you in a cockpit with a screen on the floor to see the ground when you jump. You are , or at least a peice of the car.

I was half-asleep when I got the notification for this video so I thought the title was "The Scariest Racist Game You Never Played" at first.

According to the in game, the player was summoned roughly 2740 years after the incident first took place.

0:55 "where is all the horror in racing games?"

Got 2 words for you: iRacing prices

650782 also means the hex code of purple, which is the color that our car's display has.

Distance is a criminally underrated racing game and more people should play it, if only for the atmosphere alone

44:39 For me it feels implied that the Archaic and the Driver(The player) are both trapped in a never ending simulation experiment. The Archaic is just another test subject, much like the player. The Archaic has long since been defeated, it's technology mastered by humanity, the Array is real, but most likely a replica of the Tragedy.

DISTANCE MENTIONED, DOPAMINE ADMINISTERED

I saw the thumbnail and instantly thought "Is that Distance?" and remembered the level where everything goes from 0 to 100 SO FAST.

This game is an absolute must-buy if you're an Acceleracers fan. Almost every realm has been recreated on the steam workshop.

14:28 this doesn’t say that earth is uninhabitable. This is saying that the people involved in the distance project do not consider earth relevant as anything more than a lesson to consider for the future.

Part of me thinks that the Distance Project might just be an abandoned AI-program that, without anyone to tell it to stop or collect its data, has been running an endless loop. And its possible that we're the only subject to ever successfully complete the trial, OR there's been dozens of successful runs and the AI has been pushing new subjects to constantly get better and better times. If the Archaic is a real entity that overran the Array, killing everyone on board, and it really has been several thousands of years, it makes sense that whatever the Distance Project was originally meant to do has simply been lost to time after 600k+ iterations.

Man, this Cars prequel goes hard.

Just to throw in a few bits of information out there, in one of the steam trading cards, specifically the Archaic one, it has a description that mentions that "it's implied that the archaic was brought onto the array through long-distance teleportation experiments". We can actually see the results of this from the "visions" in Compression, Contagion, and Ascension. If you pay attention, you can see in Compression, the primary teleporter is preparing to open, presumably as a result from long-distance teleportation experimentation being conducted. In Contagion, we can see that same teleporter opening, revealing, what i assume, is the homeworld for the Archaic, as we can see it on the other side. Finally, in Ascension, we can witness the Archaic coming out of the teleporter, and being brought onto the array.

This means that the Archaic was accidentally brought onto The Array by us, the humans, through teleportation experiments. This also means that The Archaic has always been at the primary teleportation chamber this whole time, and presumably, infection has began in this area to spread outward to the rest of The Array. It would explain why the sectors nearer to sector 01 is so heavily infected, and as we get farther away from sector 01, infection is less, as if it hadn't had as much time to grow and spread yet.

Overall, great video! I'm someone whose been apart of the distance community for a bit over 10 years, and it's always a treat to see new people still discovering this gem of a game today! Hoping to see future videos on the game, talking about LtE and Nexus! (and, optionally, the secret 4th campaign level)

In the scene where everything turns red, more and more wires appear, and which ends in us seeing our own self hooked to wires like the beginning, I think this is more of a flashback. It is our consciousness being uploaded. The detail not talked about in the video is that on the car's screen (which consists of its entire top half, there are no windows at all), the transfer sequence is playing out again.

Something that also gives me more questions, and was not adressed is every time the car gets cut up, not only does it keep going, but the inside looks nothing like a regular car would. There's no room for anyone to be. I don't think that we are human, or that we are controlling the car, that instead we ARE the car. And not as a machine, but like the Archaic: a living, but mechanical being. That's also why checkpoints state "regenerating" rather than "repair" or just a generic "checkpoint"

"THE MOST DISTURBING RACER EVER"
kitty kart 64: hold my 600cc engine

I bought this in alpha when it wasn't complete yet. The story used to crash the main story and give you a fake blue screen half way though the game. Gave me a bloody heart palpitation the first time.

I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream but it's a racing game.

I actually have a theory that the Archaic isn't even real. It's an imagined enemy designed by the administration to serve as a test for the iterations. Not only do the iterations need to be fast, efficient, and follow directive, they also need to remain loyal, and not be tricked or won over by the enemy. So they created the Archaic as an adversary that will try to not just destroy or slow the iteration, but also try to win it over. If it does win the iteration over, the iteration has failed and a new iteration is started
