My dad went to an estate sale and got TONS of fabric and quilting rulers. He got hundreds of hand embroidered and hand applique squares. Like 12" squares. And her daughter in law and son sold them for $1 each. It broke my heart 😭 the woman was put in a nursing home, so my dad used some of her unfinished quilt pieces and fabric and made her a quilt out of it

I love it when the whim to make a thing hits and you can find all the things to make it in your stash. Makes the ADHD/Autism crafting so much easier lol

Dear Charlie...the gsm on your fabric samplers are just a weight measurement. It stands for gram pr. square meter.🌸🌸

It’s like books. It was like a bolt of lightning hitting me when I heard that buying books is a different activity from reading books. So I shouldn’t stress over all the unread books on my shelves because I’ve had the pleasure of acquiring them. Fabric must be like that. Buying fabric and fabric scraps just for the pleasure of having them is enough in itself. If you manage to use them in a project, that’s just gravy.

The name for the blue and white floral motif is Delft! It stems from blue and white glazed pottery from Delft, Netherlands, and the motifs were usually floral or organic. So the fact that the Delft pattern is on tea cups is especially a propos.

That huge chunky cording looks like it would be so fun to use in a project where you make things look oversized on purpose to emulate the Borrowers or other small-creature features!

If you're interested in quilting but not so much for snuggling under, maybe combine a bunch of those food related fabrics into a picnic blanket? Great inspirational haul!

My mom was OBSESSED with blue and white pottery when I was growing up. Her room was entirely blue and white chintz and I still remember proofreading her essays on Delftware when she was getting her art degree. Basically, there are MANY kinds of blue and white pottery all over the world, but the flowers on those teacups remind me of Russian Gzhel!

13:06 I used to make origami with fabric (mostly cranes) and they turned out really really cute.
I used some glue mixed with water to make the fabric stiffer and actually foldable for origami and ironed them after so the fold would hold better.
I recently met up with a friend that I hadn't seen in a while and that has had a little fabric crane I gave her like 7+ years ago and it's still hanging from her rearview mirror and looking great

23:00 I think that's a proof that buying crafting supplies and using them are two different hobbies XD

Charlie, if you want to try “paper craft” with fabric I highly suggest a product called “Terial Magic”. It is a liquid stabilizer for fabric, essentially a super starch; that makes fabric stiff and papery but can be rinsed out. I use it all the time for machine embroidery and lots of other fiber arts that I do.

All the quilting fabric…lap quilts, Walker and wheelchair hanging storage! I am a nurse and crafter. My nursing home residents are always cold (I won’t go into the pathophysiology of aging and temperature control…you’re welcome!). A great way to get your crafty mojo satisfied, help the wonderful communities of our elderly, and help the planet at the same time!

Yes please, show me more interesting hobbies and crafts, which I desperately want to try, but can't, because sewing and crocheting and knitting and reading and singing and playing boardgames and sport takes all of my free time😂😂

Needle felting is something I am definitely going to try... any decade now, I swear

As you make projects you can make a quilt from the cotton scraps for the quilt top and use Cuddle/Minky for the back of the quilt. It makes a supper cuddly blanket.

The key thing is organizing it AND knowing what you have the same time next year.

Yes, I LOVE colors, they make me happy!
I would love a video of you walking through each of those fabric swatches in the box and describing each one. It would be very educational but also might be too much work for you.

Speaking of quilting and patchwork, I recently learned about “Bargello quilting” (yes, like the embroidery) and the results are absolutely stunning with surprisingly little work or headache. (Basically long strips of different coloured cloth are sewn together, then cut into different widths of strips, and sewn again to create a pattern. No sewing of thousands of individual squares required.) Definitely worth exploring, I’d say.

I live in Southeast Iowa.
I go to Cedar Rapids often and have never heard of Create Exchange, I went a couple of days ago and WOW.
Thank you for sharing, I told them how I heard of their store, and one of the ladies said she remembered you 💞
