True story. When I was 8 years of age, my primary school class wrote letters to authors of our favourite class books and stores. I'm dyslexic and struggled at school. I managed to write my letter and my teacher posted it. I recall writing our letters in late October. My letter was to the author, Mr Raymond Briggs. It was nearing Christmas, and I remember being called to the school headmaster's office, at the time, I thought I was in trouble. My headmaster, Mr Rowe, handed me a Christmas card with my name and the school's address on it. The card was a hand-drawn still from the snowman book/film and signed by none other than Raymond Briggs himself. It had a note saying, "Never give up and challenge yourself" in it. I still have it in its envelope on my bookcase this very day. That alone helped me to develop a coping mechanism and work hard to cope with my dyslexia. A day I'll never forget

This movie has been shown in Finnish tv every Christmas Eve for the last 30+ years (possibly even longer). To us it’s a Christmas classic like Home alone or It’s a wonderful life. And the main theme song is as big part of Christmas music as any other traditional Christmas song. It still makes me cry everytime, absolutely beautiful.

I am Dutch and still remember on Dutch television in 1984 I was 9 to see this. The song is magic. And I got still tears..

This film feels like it holds my entire childhood. I’d give anything to be snuggled up on my grandparents’ sofa with a cup of tea and the fire roaring, watching this movie, one last time. The feel of my grandads jumper, the sounds of the clock and my grandmas knitting needles, their dog snoring by my side 🤍 precious memories.

I'm 73 and I watched this with my son when it first came out. The years go by so fast. Such a beautiful film !

This film is on television, here in England, every Christmas - has been since 1982. It is part of Christmas. What is lovely is the fact that the child is not weighed down by the electronic world, but still lives in his imagination, which is magical, and he is free to live with ALL his emotions, including the sadness at the end. Life was so different in the fifties.

Cocidering the little boy who sang this is now 53 years old. And he still gets people in the street singing "I'm walking in the air" to him to this day. An absolute timeless classic

Great thing about this film is that it can be enjoyed no matter what language you speak

Jess, believe me, you're not the only adult watching this with tears rolling down their faces!

25:15 - so fun(ish) fact, my aunt was one of the team of artists / animators that worked on the Snowman. Obviously they all worked on every aspect but the motorcycle bit was her lead part. She had a motorbike at the time she based it on. She (Hilary Audus - listed in the credits) later worked on and directed the sequel, “The Snowman and the Snowdog” and “The Bear” (also by Briggs).

Wait till you see the Snowman and his dog, that will tug your heart strings.

The animation, music .. the feeling - This is what Christmas felt like as a kid growing up in England 🥰

The look on Jess's face the entire way through that is why the snowman is a family favourite.

Its like seeing the magic of christmas for the first time.
