Mahershala Ali to voice him. Or if they do this live action I want the actor from Everybody Hatees Chris - Tyler James Williams to play him. mhmm mhmm

As a french, this was just so good. I wish this comic was studied in history class, because France's education really brushes over what happens with the colonies, and it's disgusting.
Your video was simply amazing, and this adaptation works so well, somehow it feels like Alexandre Dumas had something more like this is mind when he wrote his novel.

Another one for the bookshelf wishlist~ Not only gorgeous but builds upon the original the way great adaptations do!

The Haitian backstory and the aditional multiple perspectives on faith did actually enhance the themes of revenge and redemption in the original text. This reinterpretation was a long time coming.

8:44 Sorry if this sounds corny but this hit deeply since I was in that scenario before. For a long time faith blinded me to the evils commited by discriminatory people.

MAN I'm getting to this one late but it's so so good, and I love how you tell it. Bringing in Dumas' father's life and Haiti's history into this tale just elevates it so much. I especially like how it resists making the actions of the slaves into revenge as well: justice for the oppressed and a thirst for revenge are different things. Though, part of me does wish Edmond had maybe resented the child at least a liiiittle bit more, at the start, just to drive home that he wasn't just seeking justice, he was truly lashing out and blinded by rage.

I have to say I especially love Haydee's role in this adaptation, the power in her faith and how she serves as a tether to keep Edmond from fully losing himself. As a brazilian, I recognize some of our own African diaspora in Haydee and Maman Bénisse's faith (Saint Peter was syncretized to Xangô, Orisha of Justice, in Umbanda), and it's so beautiful to connect across time and space with people who are like us ❤✊🏼
