I really think that amp sims should ship example DIs for the presets. When you try out a plugin and it just doesn't sound like in the demo you heard you have no clue why. Same DI same tone would eliminate the guesswork and would teach people a lot about playing style and good quality DIs.
I was addicted to opiates for ten years. Your videos helped me keep my 6 years of sobriety in tact. I’ve been a musician through it all. In rehab, I met the singer for sky eats airplane, and he showed me your music. We played an overdose prevention festival, doing an acoustic rendition of a song from your last band. When I discovered you, I got back into creating my own music. Recently I had a child with my wife, had a few deaths in the family, car broke down, and lost a promotion at work. While going through the depression from it, I mixed some of my music, using these videos for all the tips I needed. Got me through it. Bands like sylosis, karnivool, and fair to midland. Artists doing incredible things, bring so much hope into my life. Thanks for everything you do man. You do things that a lot of people benefit from. You’re an inspiring person.
I agree with Josh on this one - I’m really enjoying recording with my EMG loaded guitars vs my passives, just overall more consistent tone with less processing needed I find to get a solid tone
I would love to see a video on what you would consider a good guitar take and how much editing goes into your playing, if any. I tend to look too carefully at my DI and trash the take based on how it looks. Keep up the good work!
I don't care if I am on an island with this take, but I genuinely prefer the unprocessed! To me, that bassy womp is what a raw overdriven guitar sound does anyway. Sure, you can massage it out. But you can also leave it in and alter other parts of the mix so that it fits in with everything.
Love the fact u addressed the whole active pickups are shit trend.😂 I have many guitars with various pickups, for heavy tight riffing..... My kh2 untouchable.
Thank you Josh. You have helped me incredibly getting a nice guitar tone. Your Amp and work flow is insanely good. Probably the best out there with minimal processing 🙏
My brain had a completely different beat going for the guitar tracks when solo'd😄 then those drums kicked in and I was like oooooh, nice! Some of my favorite song intros do that.
I’ve seen this technique done before, but just by using an overdrive plug-in before the amp sim plug-in. No eq ! Same principle though, and that JST clipper will get the job done🤘
What a timely video, I'm just re-amping guitar tracks recorded in 2004 on the fifth Blackmachine ever built, which was a single-coil Tele. The high-pass made a massive difference. I'm also using the tip for getting wider guitars with different bit similar amps, Josh 6505 on the left and Mark Lewis 5150 Block Letter on the right.
Using a lighter pick i noticed made a huge difference when I was messing about recently, been stuck on jazz iiis since I was about 15, but I might have to reconsider it
