■ Is a Nursing Home Safe to Care for My Parents Just Because It Has Sprinklers?
Following the fire at Hyosarang Nursing Home in Jangseong, South Jeolla Province, which claimed 21 lives, the government mandated the installation of sprinklers in nursing homes. However, does simply installing sprinklers make a nursing home safe enough to care for one's parents? What exactly was happening at the Jangseong nursing home? Were these events something that would be acceptable for one's own parents to experience?
■ What Is in the Jangseong Nursing Home Duty Log?
The reporting team analyzed the duty logs, meeting minutes, and handover documents of the now-closed Hyosarang Nursing Home in Jangseong. Although the police had seized these documents for the investigation, this is the first time the records have been analyzed in detail. These records contain relatively detailed, date-by-date accounts of the events that took place at the nursing home. Based on these records, Sisa Gijeok Chang has reconstructed what happened at the Jangseong nursing home in collaboration with experts.
