If your child says anything good about themselves, it should crack your heart clean open with happiness for them.

0:22 she's doing it as a joke but she struggles to even joke that she thinks she's pretty. That's a clear reflection of the damage from how she was raised with that woman.

The first two clips made me realize I saw a teenage girl doing that challenge at the table next to ours at dinner the other day. The mom said “as you should” and kissed her cheek and now I want to go back in time and hug them both.😭

My mother used to subtly tear me down like this, that’s why now when someone compliments me, it makes my skin crawl. Now I make sure I compliment my daughter all the time and it shows because she compliments everyone else. It makes my heart so happy 🥺

I have a core memory of me expressing to my dad how beautiful I felt in the dress I was wearing, and his reply was "Don't let yourself get too big."..this was 2 years ago..I'm 37. Don't know why I don't call anymore DAD.

I didn't have kids myself but met someone with a son. It brings me so much joy to cook and bake treats for my step son. If you don't like kids, don't date someone with kids. 🙄

3:21 I believe this means “you ate! You ate that!” Which basically just means like “you crushed that—your makeup looks good—your hair is good—your outfit is good etc”

9:58 omg those are not friends, those are 100% bullies! That's so crappy.😢

My mom always told me I was pretty, I was 5'11 by 9th grade and had a really hard time with my self esteem for some reason, I was shy and felt I had to 'shrink down ' to be feminine..I'm so grateful for my Momma, she's awesome

My daughter recently had a baby girl. Like me, she put on weight ( we both have tummy issues and being pregnant we both could eat like normal people lol) and was feeling not the best. I told her do not let anyone ever put you down for gaining weight while pregnant, I shut my mouth when it happened to me. I live in another state and I advised her that if I hear anyone doing it to let me know as I will always have her back. I always remind my daughter she is beautiful inside and out. Well my Narc mum proceeded to tell me my daughter has put on too much weight. I told my mum if I ever hear you say that to my daughter I’m done with her again. I said to her that she is never happy we are either too thin or too fat. I also reminded her that she caused my eating disorder and she will not do that to my daughter or grandchildren

if my daughter looks at herself & says out loud “i look pretty” i know i am doing a good job. 👏🏻 i work so hard every day to make sure my kids KNOW they’re beautiful & that i think they’re absolutely perfect.

this makes me think of getting ready for school back in the day & my mom hitting me w the v subtle “don’t u think u would look a little less sickly w some lipstick?” moms rly r ur first (& worst) bully. smfh.

Tf you mean you "didn't want stepkids" how do you marry a guy without knowing he has kids

15:18 also considered assault.

My personal favorite with my mother is how she would complain about how messy the house and would blame me and my sister.   She would tell everyone that once we are out of the house, it would be so much cleaner because we wouldn't be creating the mess.   Well when we left, it only got worse because we were the only ones that would occasionally clean it.  Then she started to blame my father for the mess even though he only kept his stuff in certain areas of the house which was maybe 10% of the house.  Well when he died, she was telling everyone how she will finally be able to have a clean house without him being there.  My BIL sent me some picks of how that "cleaning" is going.  Her house looks ridiculous and I give her about 3 more years before it looks completely like an episode of hoarders.

I would kill to hear my daughter say that's she's pretty! I'm constantly correcting her because she always thinks she's hideous and she's just plain wrong!

If I had a child they wouldn't believe me if I told them they're beautiful because I would be telling them that like once every 5 minutes

Craving ice is a sign of anemia

Developing self love took me years after I left home. I try so hard to develop self love in my kids. If you love yourself, you are much less likely to allow yourself to be mistreated. How the hell is a parent going to rip apart one of the most valuable, protective tools a human can have?

Someone in my life I care about deeply (not specifying) was treated horribly by a parent growing up (lack of privacy, had his clothes taken,  been punched in the head, hit with a frying pan, had a knife thrown at him, verbally abused) and they've since reconciled (somehow) but he keeps telling himself and anyone he talks to about it that he deserved it all because he was a "bad kid". It breaks my heart because he truly believes that as a child he could do something so horrible (usually talking back) that he deserved to be physically harmed by an adult he was supposed to trust.

Little girl who cut a kid's hair at school: The eye roll before she even got in the car would have had me silently driving the kid to the barber shop. Then again, I'm mean, so there's that. In reality, though, I'd remove all electronics and make-up, then make her pay for the girl's hair to be fixed. If she doesn't have money, she can work it off. No sleepovers, movies, mall, nothing until.
