It was 1994 I was 12 years old, I saw an ad for Snatcher in a game magazine and chose it as my Xmas present, this shit blew my mind as a kid, core memory playing this game, little did I know then I’d be revisiting the experience almost 30 years later on YouTube

i so agree about the “underrated” voice acting, by the way. people always say the VA work is “pretty good for the time.” quite an undersell for what remains quite possibly the best videogame voice acting of all time

Great authentic commentary your channel is a real gem

Just replayed it again. It’s still amazing. Need to play Policenauts.
I worked on Death Stranding, doing performance capture. At the audition and a couple more times, I told Kojima-san how much I enjoyed Snatcher. He seemed pleased I remember it fondly.

I was lucky to have played Snatcher  Christmas 94. 13 year old me though this was peak video game storytelling. This was the ceiling, it will never  surpass this masterpiece lol

Never knew this game existed

Your channel is such a gem.

Good vid man. We had a Sega CD model 2 in 1993. Good times. I didn't play Snatcher until about 5 years ago and loved it. They should do a modern remake in VR.

I absolutely love the YouTube algorithm. Great video

What a great video

Love the personal experience added to this video

As much as I love snatcher, I like policenauts slightly more. The game has even more humor. It's way more of a game and it feels even more like a cyberpunk detective game. It has really grown on me over the years. But both games are in my top ten favorite games of all time.

excellent video! i’m so glad i found it. please keep it up and don’t change a thing

God help me. That scene at 24:00 is why I never finished Snatcher. I remember playing this in 1st grade and laying eyes on my TV for about 5 minutes, debating on whether I had the courage to keep playing it because my blood had run so cold at that point. Jean's "pig in a slaughterhouse" scream before that scene was horrific enough, but the actual scene made me quit this game. It even killed my appetite for several hours.

Snatcher is incredible work, but, for a few weeks, I had these nightmares about killer robots butchering humans into extinction.

Oh! I remember fondly playing this game for the first time in the mid 90s! I was super excited at every moment. Learned a lot of English thanks to this game. What emulator are you using? I kind of like the "filter" ;-)   .... never mind, I just read the description hehe

It's a shame it's so expensive, it looks fantastic

last comment (really) but i wanna say, i completely agree about snatcher vs. kojima’s other games. this is really the only one that fully delivers on its promise. i find everything else he’s done to be more interesting and frustrating than good

Thank you for sharing your story with the game, it's quite insightful to hear the opinion of someone who's played it back when it came out.

However when you say the game doesn't have a subtext, I can't help but disagree. The ending phrase about suspicion can permiates through the whole game and its plotpoints. You have suspicion due to racism (especially against the chinese living in Japan) as the game tells you there are many ethnicities living in Neo Kobe, you have Cold War suspicion against the russians and communist spies, you have suspicion among personal relationships, for exemple between Gillian and Jamie, etc...

As always with Kojima's games, there's one main theme that's declined in multiple forms

i really like this game but i do think the mgs trilogy and DS are better tbh
