What sort of physical media shelves do you use and why?!

This is a rant that speaks to my very soul brother. PREACH!

A lot of those bad reviews are from people who don’t know how to put the shelf together..I have 6 of those 24 shelves 70” tall and they works great and sturdy.

I'm in the same boat. Filled 3 atlantic shelves and they no longer sell them. So now I have to find something that won't match the others.

I use the Billy bookcases from IKEA and buy two additional shelves so that I can space them out perfectly to fit physical media. You can fit probably 500 titles on one bookcase.

Maybe a wooden pirate chest.  You have to open to show it off because of the lid, but on the plus side they don’t get dusty. It’s also can be used as a table.

The black floating shelves 34 inches  in the screenshot are pure quality . It.s metal so super tough  and holds cd's dvd's and 4k bluray's it's fantastic. I have 13 of them. IKEA LERBERG!

it's not easy being a physical media collector

I converted an Ikea Hopen 8 drawer dresser to hold my movie and game collection (or most of it). I took 1/4" (or close to it) wood cut it up into strips at Home Depot to reinforce the drawer bottom - it was tight but it still allowed the drawers to close. Each drawer could hold about 90 movies (going from memory). I purchased full extension drawer slides and swapped the Ikea ones out. Only the back few cases were a bit tricky to get out.

I liked it as it hid the visual clutter, the spines could be read easily. I used other pieces of the 1/4" (approx) wood to divide the drawers until 3 full rows and one half-ish row. Drawer could 4 for columns of movies without the wood dividers.

Obviously it goes deeper into the room, if space is tight and not as high. but if you're really tight for space maybe you could put some short bookshelves on top of the dresser.

There weren't many other dresser options that had the right height, depth or width and number of drawers. I would like to custom build a dresser/drawer storage unit so that each drawer could fit 4 rows with dividers (they help visually and to get the cases out) and maybe another row or two of drawers. And I might make the drawer height a bit taller so deeper boxes could fit.

In the past I purchased discs with 10 trays so I could fit 10 movies in the width of about 2 DVD cases. That kind of worked but I had to spend time printing labels so I knew what title were in the case and I still stored the original case. But it's an option. Was more helpful for video games. Since most cases are single disc and you don't tend to go back to them too often. Useful if you have a place to store the original cases (if you want to keep them).

The struggle is real!

Make your own!  I just started collecting and I built “racks” that hold my blu-rays and criterion’s flat against the wall to show off the cover.  My wall is one giant movie poster displaying all my movies

I use bookshelves that I bought from Walmart. They're the better homes and gardens brand. For all of the new stuff I've been getting, I started displaying them on one of those 9 cube shelves from Walmart (removed the bins). It's not ideal but it actually holds a surprising amount of movies.

The system I use are wood crates from Michales or other similar stores.  You can stack them, screw them into the wall, whatever, and as I need more I simply add more.

"These shelves are impossible to get." THIS! The real struggle for us physical media collectors is trying to acquire some damn shelves.

If you need a play to store your stuff in the mean time buy 17 liter really useful boxes. They fit a lot of DVD cases snug.

Absolutely love this episode. Hilarious! Keep up the great channel.

I’ve been looking for a shelf for a while… I’ll probably make my own soon 😭

I store mine on an old Diaper changing station, I know it sounds weird, but the height is perfect for DVDs, Blu Rays and my clamshell VHS that I have. I can fit movies 2 deep on the shelf DVDs and Blue-Ray is about 48 singles per shelf, 6 shelves that' 288 movies on that shelf unit. IF the movies are all on disk mediums. VHS obviously takes more space.

I loved this video and you made me laugh over something that’s brought me to tears. The struggle is real and it’s nice to know I’m not the only one out there. Lol

My mom back in the day (mid-2000s) bought 6 Atlantic Oskars, I have 1 left. Fits most of my DVDs & BluRays, 4k's, animated series slipcase sets, TV season sets and Steelbooks, but not all. Have to pile the animated stuff on top and I ran out of space there too. Had to put my big Harry Potter Hogwarts Collection and Lord of the Rings Special Extended Edition Bookcase DVD's in my display case where my figures are supposed to go.

I wish they would still make Atlantic. I heard PrePak was the next best thing after that. Now both are gone. 🤦‍♂️

I feel you bro! I’ve been looking for a couple of months, I need one more shelving unit.
