Every household should have an M1

Bought a new M1 Garrand in 308, did have a few issues as well and as you said they got back to me almost immediately, had me ship it back at their expense, fixed it and was ready to ship back to me in a few days. They also called me discussed what they did and I really appreciated the personal attention. In my case the rifle doesn’t like the new enbloc clips but it does fire the old clips without any issues. First firing from a bench after setting basic zero was a half inch group, couldn’t believe how accurate it is. FYI mine is #13 of the new models.

The Garand Collector Association did a firing test on the standard G.I. barrels and found it to 14,000 rounds to wear them out.  You would wear out all the moving parts at least twice before wearing out the barrel.

Great to hear! I’m going to get one thanks

I own two in .308, one had a bent op-rod. This was disappointing but the CMP took it back without asking questions, sorted it out within 2 weeks, all on their dime. As far as a match-oriented garand is concerned, I don't think there's a better value on the market than these.

I went with a Springfield Armory M1A.

Just got my reclaimed expert grade. Well it’s at my ffl. 10/10 is pickup date.

YES!

ok, enjoyed the video, I currently have a Garand (Korean era SA, with 10/53 original barrel 3/3, no pitting) that was gifted me by my brother. I owned one years (decades!) ago when I was a cop, before law school bills caused its sale. This one is going nowhere.
Regarding your question, I can see the market splitting, with GI guns selling a a premium over CMP guns, on the secondary market, with no disparagement meant to the new production. At $1900 new I believe they are over-priced for the market, even with GI Garands being mostly exhausted at CMP, but understand what the cost of production on a small scale can be (maybe 1000 a year?).

Very good presentation, CMP has another great supporter in you. Any receiver from the CMP, bare or built into a complete rifle has had a visit from a receiver bridge gauge and passed. Those are still a little more common than hen's teeth these days and also one of the few things that absolutely determines usability. A very few M1 builders have one, most not including me. The new manufacture M1 rifles are a solid foundation for JCG as issued rifle matches and if you aren't already aware, the online CMP Forums have a "How To" sticky (Orlando) for JCG match stock preparation that may improve your already very good group size. The Files of Interest sticky is also... of possible interest.
P.S. - If you haven't already, you may find a Project Appleseed two day event to be quite rewarding. Keep your powder dry!

I’m looking to buy an M1… have some $ saved up and looking at several. New by CMP, Expert grade CMP, WW2 surplus and an original unissued NM M1. I’m leaning new or Expert. As much as I want the NM, the guy wants $8k for it, I’ve seen NM go for between 2.5 and 5k, so 8k is a stretch even with all the paperwork and it not being fired much in the last 20-30 years… stil several decade it could have been fired heavily. A WW2 correct surplus in good condition is about $3k, as much as I’d love that(and my preference) I wouldn’t want to shoot it much… so that leaves the CMP. Thank you for your opinion on the subject.

Quick side question, is that pouch on the buttock from Olongopo Outfitters? I’ve only recently found out about the site, a one-man-band outfit, former Marine, producing excellent quality products, by the looks of what I’ve seen on his site.

Being in communist Washington these are still legal to purchase as well as the mini 14.  I want to get one in 308

One important question I have about these new Garands is if they're able to handle heavier ammunition of all types or if they should only be fired with the classic 150-168 grain ammunition like the old Garands?

Not new ?    Does ithave a serial # ?

Who is forging M1 receivers ?

I bought a CMP M1 Garand Special in 2009. I have had ZERO problems with malfunctions with it shooting surplus Greek HXP M2 ball ammo. It came with a civilian Criterion barrel and I have been really rough with it, treated it rough and it still doesn't malfunction. I keep the springs fresh, replace the op rod spring. Keep it well greased. Very durable very powerful semi automatic main battle rifle.

Any opinions if the .308 or .30 06 is a better way to go?

Those are few and far between .

Inch and a half group at 100 yards ...... this is an acceptable group for you ?    I have never shot an M-1 but I would hope they threw a group tighter than that .
