At Shot Show 2025, we visited the CMP booth, where their representatives explained in detail how to join the CMP, and the process for ordering M1 Garands and other US military surplus firearms.

First, there is no CMP membership. There are clubs/organizations that are affiliated with the CMP and if you are a member of one of these affiliates this meets one of the requirements to be eligible to acquire firearms from the CMP. VFW & veterans groups are often recognized affiliates. Orders are now done via online only. Proof of some sort of firearm qualification is a requirement. Hunter Safety courses, CCW, military police, etc. Not required if over age 60. Proof of citizenship: birth certificate or passport is a requirement. There are presently (today) only one grade of M1 rifle available- Expert grade. these are rebuilds from previous deactivated 'Drill' rifles. Best get one before they are all gone!
