Fun Fact: I interned at Springfield Armory National Historic Site for college credits. One of the first things I learned to do there was answer calls from people asking how to fix their Hellcat or M1A and telling them the brand confusion.

Hilariously Winchester had already tested actual M1 Garands with BAR magazines BEFORE WW2, and the military just wouldn't bite.  😂

For all of the M14s problems, by far the worst thing about it is that it was chosen over the AR-10. U.S. Ordnance wanted a fully modular rifle that could be an infantry, carbine, sniper, and squad automatic on the same receiver and they passed over the only gun in the trial that could do all of it in favor of the only gun in the trail that couldn't do any of it.

It is as if millions of Fudds all cried out in terror.

Gotta be my fav firearms channel now, I am tired of polite “it’s ok I guess” I need people to feel bad about what they’ve done

Basically after the STG was created the victorious powers of WWII had some lessons to learn about infantry small arms.

The lessons the soviets learned was “wow, with an intermediate cartridge a soldier can carry much more ammo, it’s much more controllable, and we don’t need our infantry to make accurate hits at 600 meters anyway

The lesson the US learned was “Make a full auto Garand and replace all our weapons with it”

There are a bunch of 1970s and 80s gun culture books that talk about how the M14 is great, because it has a wooden stock. So you can use it to hit things; bubba if you are hitting things with your gun you have problems.

Springfield didnt know how to make springs?! But they had a whole field of them! 😂

The idea with the flash hider is that the shooter won't notice the ring because it's the same pitch as his tinnitus

The worst thing to ever happen to the m14 was it being adopted right between two rifles that were both much better for their times.

The US Army spent about 25 years trying to make the M14 accurate, before giving up, and moving the Army Marksmanship Unit to the M16A2 and the snipers to a slightly modified Remington 700.

I used to shoot competition with the M1A. Cost me a fortune to keep those things 1.5 MOA rifles. Cryo treated Krieger barrels. Match gas system. Trigger job. Glass bedded action. Replacing barrel every 2k rounds. Ahhhh. Just to get beat by an off the shelf Colt AR for under $1000. 🤠

Surprised you didn't even mention how the Army intentionally tried to sabotage the AR because they were butthurt about this gun getting replaced.

Everyone forgets that it took 13 years to get the M-14 approved.  Or that the first Regiments in Europe (vs the Ebil fouble-bad soviets) did not get theirs until 1962.  That final distribution was only completed in 1965--two full decades after the end of WWII.  Just in time for USAF to get a plane-builder (Fairchild) to make them Stoner's LWT AR-10 variant.
That's why there are stupid things like a stripper clip bridge--it's to load into non-disposable magazines.  Which were a hold-over from muddy thinking back in 1947.  The M-14 was actually never meant to have an "easily removable" magazine, "To keep the troops from using too much ammo."

"Honesty" based upon limited knowledge, is stupidity.  You nailed it.

They did in fact make striper clip dust covers for FALs. Forgotten Weapons even has a video on a canadian FAL that has them

The front sight assembly is poorly designed too but no one ever mentions it. The whole front sight with protector wings is held onto its dovetail with a single set screw. If the screw comes loose the whole thing will shift or worst case scenario fall off when bumped. If you zoom in on photos of old guard marching formations you will find multiple rifles missing their front sight because the design can’t even withstand being used for marching /drill and ceremony for a prolonged time without failing.

These guys have really become my favorite long form content guntubers, i haven't heard such technical shitting on of guns ever and I love it.

At this point, I'm convinced the only good gun is the P99

the guy you mention at 8:40 is @Parabella. His content is pretty great and he seems like an honest dude, gave pros and cons to the M14 and made his case for it. He did say that the SFA M1A sucked and has qc issues with it multiple times.
