Donkey Kong Bananza's Best Story is About a Rock

Buried deep underground in Donkey Kong Bananza is a story that's probably more intriguing than the main plot. Across 30 stone tablets scattered throughout 17 layers of the underground, a lone Fractone named Exploritone carved the story of their journey to find the origin of their species.

I love when Nintendo leans into world-building in Mario and DK games. I need more of this.
Pokémon Gen 2 video is next.

My sadness when finding Exploritone's grave and then the immediate laughter I had when I found they were literally sleeping underground, is a top ten moment of this game for me.

Sad fact about the Lions: if you dig beneath the entry point of the level you’ll find a hidden room with a sign, it actually reveals that the founder of the feast layer (Who is most likely the Lion Elder) is buried underneath having long since passed away.

dk bananza unironically has incredible worldbuilding

I would LOVE if he stays around like a “captain toad” of donkey Kong, like how some people want Void to be like DK’s wario.

This is the gift you receive when you don’t mash through dialogue

I love the Fractones so much. Best Nintendo NPC species ever

I want a Fractone for next Mario Kart.

The Fractones are the goats, I hope they appear after Bananza

I recall that in one of the quiz a fractone make it is said that both the giraffes and the lions migrate to the surface.

This game is so Banjo-Kazooie-coded, I pray that they have one working in the pipeline

slight correction. the Banandium Root appears to have actively stopped K Rool from reaching it, so it didn't want to be used by evil but was forced in some manner

I definitely think there's some unclear connection between the Fractones and the Eels. They're pretty undeniably made of the same material, and both species are obsessed with music. It's possible the Eels are another form of Fractones, or that one branched off from the other.

I love the fact that exploritone has a fossil imbedded in them. Makes you wonder how long ago that became part of it...

First of all, I love that this is all an evolution of the Rosalina Storybook that koizumi and their team first made with Mario Odyssey. They've been doing cool background lore stuff like this ever since with the Mario games.

The great thing about this game is that it unifies the history of Donkey Kong with the worldview shared with Mario, and the settings created by Rareware and Retro Studios without dismissing them all.

It's cool that you're talking about the lore of bananza because it's not often touched. The lore of this game is quite interresting

@Faniwa828 6 months ago

I find it funny how you can visit it's grave and literally find it "resting" underneath it

Biblically accurate banana bunch

I feel like this was all an evolution of the Depths from Tears of the Kingdom. Feel like it started as a Zelda idea about going further and further underground finding Long lost species.
