Oh my goodness it's *my time to shine*! I used to work with and am still friends with Dewberry! His real name is Jeffery, but there was already a Jeff competing so production made him go by his last name. He's the most amazing ball of Southern homosexual sweetness, and he has a cooking channel here on YouTube if you're interested! (also he deserved better from this show 😭)

“I’m not here to make friends” has to be the catchphrase of reality television

Well, in this episode Ramsey doesn’t throw a plate of food against the wall and no one had a mental breakdown, so it was actually pretty tame. 😂

15:22 I am positive that Gordon noticed she was starting to freak, and confirmed she wasn't a professional (or considered herself one) when she said "for my kids" which is why he gave her a more gentle, likely more honest critique of her turkey tacos.

So glad there’s a Wendy on the cast so Lux can scream her name all season long

In the state of Iowa, 14 year olds can work in meat packing plants as long as they're not on the kill floor. It's absolute insanity they're allowed at all!

He's so much more normal in the other seasons omg 😭

0:52 Un-Ironically, Hell's Kitchen Season 1 also uses the RuPaul's Drag Race Season 1 filter (insert Drag Race snake rattle sound) 😂😂😂

Just in case there's anyone in the audience who may be unaware, please keep in mind that on top of the stressful competition aspect, there have been interviews that came out about production actively sabotaging the chefs behind the scenes. Swapping out their meat while it was cooking, and other things like that, just to create added stress to the situations. As with all reality TV shows, production is the third person in the room. (I am typing this at the beginning of the video, so I don't know yet if Luxeria mentions this in the video or not, so if she does, future me will acknowledge that lol)

Edit: It wasn't meat that was swapped, but basic ingredients like salt and sugar. My bad for misremembering. The meat issues were actually thanks to production turning the ovens off while things were still cooking. Regardless, production was hard on the contestants to make for better tv.

Edit 2: I include some information pulled from an article and reddit below in my response to sorcererCermet

I believe that after this season the contestants had to all actually have experience in a kitchen

Hell's kitchen is him at his most scandalous because 1 the chef's will be serving food to real people and 2 they should know what they are doing.

Imagine if you won an early season of HK then 5 years later ended up on Kitchen Nightmares. 😅

“Step forward, Wrinkly!!” 😂😂😂😂 Killed me

Those ladies who went up to the counter, I bet were paid actors. No normal person does that and just sits back down after being insulted and sworn at, they cancel their order and storm out. That’s my rationalisation for what happened

S1 is the obvious place to start but it’s also the weirdest version of the show. It hasn’t found its footing yet and the wannabe head chefs aren’t actually chefs yet so it’s really weird. In all the other series, all the contestants are chefs.

I think when the narrator said “they have what it takes”, we all exclaimed in unison “to make it to the pageant!”

It freaks me out to watch all these people cooking with their long hair down, it was drilled in my head in high-school cooking class, we weren't allowed to go to into the kitchen unless our hair was pulled back
