Three strange historical cases, each documented through surviving reports, official records or first-hand accounts.

In this episode:

• In 1942, two U.S. Navy officers disappeared from a patrol blimp over California. Hours later, the aircraft drifted back toward land with no one aboard.

• In 1944, residents of Mattoon, Illinois began reporting strange sweet smells, temporary weakness and a mysterious prowler outside their homes. The town quickly became convinced that someone was attacking people with an unknown gas.

• In 1901, two Oxford academics became lost while walking through the gardens of Versailles. Both later claimed that, for a brief period, the people and surroundings around them seemed to belong to another century.

These stories are based on historical reports, archived documents and surviving accounts. Paranormal and unexplained claims are presented as they were reported and are not stated as proven fact.
