Two disturbing historical cases, both documented in newspapers, books and surviving witness accounts.

In this episode:

• In 1889, a farming family in Quebec reported fires, broken windows, moving objects and a mysterious voice that seemed to answer questions. The disturbances became so strange that visitors and newspaper reporters travelled to the property to investigate.

• In 1878, a young girl in Watseka, Illinois began suffering from unusual trance-like episodes. She later claimed to be Mary Roff, a girl who had died years earlier, and spent months living with the Roff family while behaving as though she belonged there.

Both cases became famous in their time, but the surviving evidence leaves major questions unanswered.

These stories are based on historical newspaper reports, archived publications and surviving written accounts. Supernatural claims are presented as they were reported at the time and are not stated as proven fact.
