I finally watched Radio Rebel, and while there is A LOT we need to discuss about this movie, I became increasingly fascinated by one thing: Principal Moreno’s absolutely incredible descent into madness.

She starts the movie as a fairly normal high school principal trying to stop an anonymous student from disrupting her school, which is reasonable enough... and then Radio Rebel breaks her psyche into pieces.

So today, we’re following Principal Moreno from Day 1 to the completely unhinged woman she becomes by the end of the movie and taking a close look at the overall themes of Radio Rebel. It's a wonderfully ridiculous movie that deserves it's time in the sun!

I didn’t care about the rules about music not being played during school hours. I cared that their mp3s and other devices were taken and not given back.

Some may have forgot to pick them up. But I had an experience where someone took my journal and just never given it back. I get getting in trouble for not paying attention to the documentary we were supposed to watch. I don’t get people deciding that you should never get your stuff back.

It’s the same thing as 16 Wishes, both aren’t actually DCOMS😂. I was shocked when I found that out because I still associate both movies with Disney Channel.

7:14 tbf, I’m pretty sure the principle was keeping these devices and not giving them back at the end of the day, which is technically theft

The elevator mention reminded me that in highschool I was constantly aggravated about the elevators bc regular kids would use it meanwhile it hurt so bad to go up and down the stairs quickly while people are literally rushing me to go faster. I sprained easy and most terrifyingly I learned that if i pushed too hard that is go paralyzed from the waist down. And yet...kids would use it DAILY, like i had to fight to get to it before other people and worse they'd spill grape juice in it all the time and it was so gross. To the point that the school cracked down bc people taking grape juice would spill it dramatically or throw it in weird places, but the disability elevator was the most absurd for how many trashcans we had around every inch of the place.

13:55- there was no dress code- that was the point. She says it in her announcement about morp that they want everyone to come as they are and that they didn't need to feel pressured to spend a ton of money on their clothes, limos, etc. obviously all the main characters have to dress up to stand out but there are a fair number of other students dressed up too

This actually what I thought of normal Disney movie like weirdness and logic that make no sense except for the principal and ridiculous excitement fo 20 thousand over 700 thousand Plus which makes you obscure in reality

Fun fact, the entire plot of this movie was copied from a movie starring Christian Slater (The OG JD for any Heathers fans) called Pump Up the Volume lol

1:33 there are lots of Disney channel shows and movies not on Disney plus I don’t think that means it wasn’t one I mean it was advertised as one when it aired

Nancy Robertson is actually so funny! You should check out Corner Gas, if you like her. It always is a bummer when great comedy talents get put in these type of roles for me (like Larry Miller, as another example). On the one hand it's nice to just see them around and getting work, on the other hand, I can't help but wonder what it would be like if they had been discovered younger or in a different way.

1:31 Wait I'm sorry, I'm confused by this because Radio Rebel is on Peacock last time I checked. So it IS on a streaming platform.

That being said, I'm american, so that might have something to do with it, idk

I lived with my mp3 player in during highschool. As long as I got my work done and paid attention where it was important they didn't care.

I still do better with some background music.
