I remember the marketing for this being so bad. The trailer had none of the music in it, or even a hint that there were musical numbers, so it just looked like they were doing a bad remake with social media shit added, and Tina Fey was playing the same character.

I understand that musicals don’t do very well, but do you know what’s worse than a musical to someone who doesn’t like musicals? A surprise musical

They have RENEE RAPP and hired someone who can’t sing to be the lead…

This is a musical that didn't want to be a musical. The stage musical is so much better because it commits to the camp.

I’m actually gonna cry wdym they COMPLETELY got rid of the other plastics’ lines in MEET THE PLASTICS??? LITERALLY REGINA WAS SUPPOSED TO BE BUILT UP TO WDYM THEY JUST SKIPPED GRETCHEN AND KAREN’S PARTS??

they kidz bop-ified my mean girls

The reason why Janis wasn't lesbian in the original was for a reason. The joke was that she told someone she was Lebanese and Regina started the rumor because she's also dumb (or just straight up diabolical).

Actually, it is important that Janis is NOT a lesbian in the original. The point was that her life and reputation were destroyed by an ill-intentioned rumor and the homophobia of her peers, and it wasn't even true. Janis' character is one that doesn't fit the stereotypical feminine traits the plastics value and aspire to so much. She defies these concepts in her attitude and appeareance. That doesn't mean she is lesbian. It was brilliant.
Of course representation is important and welcome, but not when it contradicts the point of the narrative.
By making her lesbian, it just perpetuates the stereotype that lesbians are different, masculine and resentful of straight girls. If anything they SHOULD have made Regina lesbian, who projects a facade of perfect femininity to hide her sexuality, but why making an interesting choice I guess.

We can see they didn't understand the movie when the plastics dress cheap shein influencer clothes... they're supposed to be it girls, set trends, not follow them

telling us you can’t sing and then immediately singing better than most of the cast 😭

6:59 (as a lesbian) I liked that Janice wasn't a lesbian in the original movie, because I felt like if kind of showed how people would get called queer or people would think you're gay just for being different and not wanting to be stereotypically feminine. she did not need Kevin g tho

Tiny little thing because I’m a pedant: Mean Girls isn’t actually based on a novel, it’s based on a self-help book for parents of teenage girls. The social dynamics in the film and even some specific scenarios are largely drawn from or inspired by things the book talks about, Tina Fey just took that and added her own experiences and comedic flair to give us the film we all know and love.

The thing is, thats not even the worst part..they just made regina George like a mean girl with words instead of a mean girl psychologically.  Regina George literally is a mental health threat but in mean girls the remake/movie musical..its just like shes just idk cringey mean. Like shes not mean at all no one would be actually scared of her.  But in og they would be scared of her

That shit was an Elf makeup and shein/target clothe commercial 😒

You have NO IDEA how absolutely gagged I was when I've hear the lead at 0:13 like holy shit you're so right. Girl barely sang and I could tell she's new to the game

They RUINED Mean Girls!

She Doesn't Even Go Here!!!!

This was nepotism, her family are huge in the Australian film industry

This movie SUCCCKKKKKKKKKKKS like why did they cut ALL the major songs and all the interesting bits from the broadway 😭😭😭

the musical itself is fantastic, I have no idea why they changed so much of it for this movie 😭😭

They said that janice was a lesbian because she’s Lebanese but Regina got it confused 😂

What I love about the original film, is it feels a bit timeless. Like yes there is dated aspects, but it has a “anytime” quality that anyone can watch it and connect.

The musical film leans sooo much into current tech and trends that by the time it was released it already felt dated.
