Never ban the TT.

236,000 people drown every year but no one would ban swimming. This race is the pinnacle of true motorcycle racing, not done for money but for the joy of doing it.  My brother's big hero was Bob McIntyre who was the first to clock a 100mph lap on his Norton Manx 500- Bob was killed  crashing on another circuit. My wife rode a Grieves  (a lost make who had dominated the lightweights in the 60s)  and she did a flat out lap on it when the circuit was opened for all riders between race requirements, one of the thrills of her life. Being good enough to ride at the TT is a dream for grass roots bikers and banning it would feel like the death of the spirit of adventure.

"Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety," Benjamin Franklin

There is padding in some places round trees and walls.  They are there to protect the trees and walls.

If you don't ride you'll never understand

We’re all adults. The riders choose to race and the supporters choose to watch. Everyone knows to risks.

Wife of a rider who passed on this course came back the next year and was asked if she thinks the race should be cancelled. She said "No. You couldn't cancel it even if you wanted to. It's bigger than you or me. Bigger than us. It's like a monster."

If you thought this looked scary, check out Peter Hickman's record TT lap on YouTube, filmed from an on-board camera!

We are an Australian couple that went to the IOM TT for the first time in 1984.  Twelve riders died that year but only 4 were competitors.  The rest were spectators that tried to emulate the racers when the road was re-opened to the public.  We race sidecars & have returned to the IOM TT several times as pit crew for fellow Australian sidecar teams.  We lost a good friend in 2016 but we all knew he died doing what he loved doing.

People know the risks. Nobody is forcing  people to do the sports they love., In 2023 alone there were 20 deaths climbing Mount Everest and 51 alpine climbing  deaths in USA.

When interviewed one time Joey was asked how he managed to go so fast ....he replied there's a grey bit and a green bit ....I try to keep it on the grey bit....

I raced motocross and flat track from 1968 to 1974 till I was 19. I’ve always wanted to go to the Isle of Mann TT. No not to race, to watch. Those laps at that speed make my butt checks contract!

I knew an old chap forty years ago that used to frequent the pub that we had many a great evening, I used to pick him up even though he only lived yards away from the pub ,his old  legs and hips suffered the effect of a lifetime farming. He loved to talk about the tt races he attended back in the  19 twenties ,then he would say can you take me back home ...he'd get his box of photos and we'd take them back to the pub and he'd show us  photos of all these old guys on their motorcycles..I never tired of listening to him. 40,000 bikers regularly go to watch the TT every year and I have been 3 times, the atmosphere is amazing and everyone goes to watch the racing and the speeds, hoping no one crashes

Off to the TT for the first time next week. I am absolutly buzzing for it.

On the bright side: Its safer than a cruise on Titanic

This is just one of the things that make us British. From playing the most uncontrolled ball games between two villages where the police look away, to chasing wheels of cheese down a hill and the TT race, the risk adds to the excitement. The more you have to lose the higher the adrenaline.

This is Europe, either you be there or you not. I want to be there, be part of History.

I live in the u.k .My next door neighbour is a biker who races and he races there sometimes. Just found out yesterday he had a crash a few weeks ago somewhere else and broke 10 ribs and one leg . These guys are fearless. Insane speeds.
