It's not about flying your car, it's about landing it.

just love it when they mow the lawn...

They look externally somewhat like everyday cars, to promote the brands and models. Under the hood they are something different altogether. Four-wheel drive, advanced suspension and aerodynamics and some 400 horsepower. In an interview a few years back the four-time time world champion and at that time the leader of the Toyota rally team Tommi Mäkinen was asked, what really is common with their rally car and a normal Toyta Yaris. His answer was "I think the door handles are the same."

Guys you need to watch Rally Onboard footage, then you can see how fast they are really going!

Quite fitting: “My heart’s not in control.”

One thing in rallying that people often forget, the car is important, but most important is the relationship between the driver and the co-driver!

Here is how rallying works: teams drive street-legal cars along a closed-off course through an area. One stage might be 8 miles long and the next 15 miles; these must be completed as quickly as possible. Even if they get a flat tire or have a minor accident, stopping effectively ends their race because they would lose too much time. At the end, all the times are added up, and the team with the fastest total time across all stages wins.

As an old Swede (60) and a former rally driver it's fun to see your reaction. You really make me laugh and have a joyful time :) To drive in dark as those clips from Swedish rally in winter darkness, is really pretty easy! You have such fantastic light's in front of the car, so it's like daylight, but the contours is even better.

100mph in the forrest, at night, on ice. 🤯🤘
this is why rally is THE best🤘

Some people think that driving may seem crazy. But it's completely normal. My grandmother drives the same way when she's afraid she'll be late for bingo.

14:53 speeds ca 160 - 215 km/h ( 99 -135 mph ) but on snow , narrow tarmac and gravel roads ,also icy and wet contisions and many curves between field, forrest and edge of clifs

We're looking forward to seeing you enter your first rally soon.

The drivers are crazy, but the navigators are even more insane. They have their heads down, reading their course notes throughout the stage. I suggest looking for onboard videos and watching the navigators calmly reading their notes.

These are the most skilled drivers in the world. All surfaces, all conditions, always evolving and only the clock to beat. These guys are on another level from almost all other motor sports

"if in doubt, go flat-out"!.. The words of late Rally legend Collin McRae. 🙏

A Danish friend of went to Finland to visit a friend. The friend lived out in the backcountry and he was picked up from the airport by the grandmother. As soon as they were out of town this old woman started to drive like a rally driver. I mean a 70 year old woman broadsiding it through the turns on gravel roads. He understood right there why the Finish are so good at rally. He also confessed that he was pretty close to soiling himself.

I had to laugh when you asked "Why do they race at night?" It's crazy like rallying, but even NASCAR races at night...

The weight of the vehicles is kept as low as possible to maximize speed. As a result, the vehicle's flight characteristics differ noticeably depending on how full the fuel tank is.
And the co-driver has such detailed notes on inclines, descents, road camber, corners, narrow sections, and bumps that he can guide the driver even at night—and at such speeds.
The vehicles MUST be road-legal in order to move between the various race sections under their own power.
Depending on the race class, they are standard vehicles that have been tuned to varying degrees.

Given enough speed all cars can fly. The question is about the landing. Similar to the phrase "It's not the speed that kills, it's the sudden deceleration that gets you.".
