I think another thing that Dreamworks films do well is that they never talk down to their audience. It’s interesting how companies just assume that children can’t understand basic story arcs without someone holding their hand.

Disney stopped dreaming. Dreamworks still dreams.

The main difference is that DreamWorks, ARENT SCARED TO EXPERIMENT. They don’t make something that’s worked before unless the fans want it. They give their characters more depth than necessary so it doesn’t feel like you are being FORCED to like the main character. Hell they made Tai Lung (a ruthless kung-fu master looking for revenge), an actually relatable character. He’s been trained and told he was the future dragon warrior both a privilege and a honour, only for that to be ripped away because of  what was in his eyes, a ‘gut feeling’. His ruthlessness and rage feels relatable because we all do stuff we aren’t proud of or regret when we are hurt and betrayed like that. It makes him feel like an actual person rather than some stand in villian only meant to be mean to give the main character a reason to beat them up.

15:30 This scene also subverts our expectations. Stoic put his ear to Hiccup's chest in the same way and confirmed he was alive. It was a scene that had us cheering in victory for the hero.

Whilst when Hiccup presses his ear to Stoic's chest, he hears nothing. He doesn't get to have the same relief. We are hit with that same realization, hoping it'd be like the first movie. But the dread kicks in as the scene drags on with no bright light in sight. We slowly realize that Stoic isn't coming back. He's truly gone. And it hurts so much to this day.

To put it short.
Disney thinks that kids are idiots who think life is all about roses and dreams
While dreamworks understand that kids are waaaaayyy mature than what people give them credit for..

Unlike Disney, Dreamworks doesn’t do twist villains. And even if they did, it’s done well and it’s a character you would least suspect. Just look at Megamind !

5:13
"(They) feel so different because they have layers..."
Me: Like Shrek.
"...just like real people."
Me: Like Shrek?

“Yeah; in the face, watch”
Made me cackle

Donkey really pulled a dragon 😂
How do i even rate his game ?😂😂

Well Dreamworks was born to spite Disney.....it's no wonder they have achieved what they wanted to do

I feel like if you compare three movies from dreamworks, like HTTYD, Puss n Boots, and shrek, you'll see differences in how the characters are animated, how they act, how the characters speak and such.
but if you look at a majority of disney movies, they're all the same. Rinse and repeat of a clean style, similar animations. I'd say the only differences is how smooth animations become as time goes on but that's really about it.
I LOVE HTTYD so I might be a little biased, but it genuinely does just capture that fantasy but it's actually reasonable. In the third movie they let the dragons go and despite what ppl think, it isn't because toothless found a 'girlfriend' it's because Hiccup realized that no matter how much they fight, the dragons will ALWAYS be targets. It's more obvious if people watch the httyd series like race to the edge.

'What Dreamworks Does That Disney Doesn't'
Put out consistent good movies.

Its crazy how he constantly looked over Pitch from The Guardians. Which honestly is one of the most intimidating villains.

I feel like Disney doesn’t really try to focus on teaching morals and important lessons like how Dreamworks does. Most Disney productions nowadays just feel like they were made for entertainment more than what they used to do. Dreamworks holds entertainment, but also carries harsh life lessons and scenes that show struggles, like Puss’ panic attack (Last Wish) or Alex’s turn to insanity (Madagascar 1)

Lowkey didn’t even know strange world existed lol

7:41 I will always argue that Encanto had enough conflict without a villain.

19:22 Slight correction for Zootopia: No IMMEDIATE Sign of Love in Zootopia. Not only does Zootopia 1 end with a "You know you love me", but the climax of Zootopia 2 has Judy and Nick tearfully open up to each other.

It is less "Immediately falling in Love", and more "Slowly falling in Love", with one of the hardest parts of falling in love being the most clear in Zootopia 2: Emotionally opening up and showing your vulnerable self to your partner.

Nick is not quite portrayed as "Being incompetent" in Zootopia 2, as much as he is "Out of his Depth". Half of his situation is trying to play "Catch up" to a high energy partner who acts before she thinks, while Judy ends up having her rash actions bite her in the tail later on.

In fact, while it is not immediately obvious, Nick and Judy have been getting closer throughout Zootopia 2, with heavy implication that she was going out on a date with Nick at the end.

That being said, it is more the writing Skill of Jared Bush than it is the skill of Disney Writing.

Also in Wish, literally nothing happened in the end. We got rid of Poo Man, but no one learned anything. The villain should have been someone taking advantage of people who wish for things and rely on someone else to grant their wish, because the moral of the story should've been "dont hope your dreams come true by themselves, work to make your wishes come true", and Asha at the end literally told people to KEEP WISHING, instead of working for it

"pedro madrigal's death happened in a flashback and didn't mean much to us" BRO I CRIED

He is right,  Disney is bad at seeing how people actually like something and cancel the actual good shows for their other shows. Like the owl house,  is full of character growth and characters that feel human but Disney canceled it.
