WOW. This was heartbreaking. How good is Tom Hanks!? This man killed it in the 90's and this marks #3 from him of some of the greatest movies ever made. Guys let us know, was this a book originally? When John says im sorry for what i am instead of for what ive done....gets me every time.....

If you thought the ending of the film was dark, the book's ending is much darker.

John Coffey - I’s afraid of the dark.
Melinda Moores - I dreamed you were wandering in the dark, and so was I, and we found each other.  We found each other in the dark.

NOW you know WHY John is afraid of the dark.  It’s what he experiences when he feels all of the pain and hate in the world.

i saw this in the theater and had a complete breakdown, as i was uncontrollably sobbing, i started to get self conscious and looked around and realized literally everyone in the theater was losing their shit.

Michael Clark Duncan really did a good job he deserved an award, also the actor who played Percy, to play that villain role so well to be hated by everybody.

I think this is one of those movies where most men will shed a tear too.. It's very powerful.

Something to consider... A typical house mouse lives an average of 2 years. It was mentioned that Tom Hanks' character had a grown son when he knew John Coffey, so he was at the very least around 40 at the time. He said that he was currently 108, subtracting the estimated 40 years (the time of John) and about 68 years had passed.
So it would mean that Mr. Jingles lived 34 times the average lifespan of a mouse. Given that figure, and the average lifespan of a male human of 68 years, Paul could very well live to live for over 2300 years (34 times the average of 68 years). A very long Green Mile. Mind blowing.

I literally can’t watch this movie without balling like a baby.. I saw y’all fought the tears.. just know emotional reactions are not looked down on in this community. Genuinely love watching you guys! Very proud of what y’all have accomplished in such a short amount of time!

1:12:24 Essentially, we're all walking our own Green Mile. And it begins from the very moment of our birth.

You are forgetting "Philadelphia".
Which is the movie he won his 1st Best Actor Oscar award for.
And then, the 2nd for Forest Gump... the very next year.
Tom Hanks. Legend.

Tom Hanks had 13 great movies in the 1990s.  In 1994 Tom Hanks and Gary Sinise were in the movie Forrest Gump, then in 1995 they were both, again, in a movie called Apollo 13. You have to remember that the time period of this movie is set in 1935. Antibiotics were not available to treat UTIs. The most they would do is hospitalization, douches, surgery, and the least would be to give the patient sulfur tablets which would irritate the patient's stomach.

Saint Christopher is primarily known as the patron saint of travelers and is believed to protect against harm and danger during journeys. He is often invoked for safe travels, protection from accidents, and even for those in professions involving travel, like drivers and sailors.

About the UTI, if it's not treated properly, the bacteria can spread all the way to your kidneys, causing pyelonephritis, which is kidney infection, and it's more dangerous and even deadly if not treated because it can continue to spread from your kidneys to your bloodstream and lead to general infection. Kidney stones is something else, it's basically the minerals present in your urine accumulating and forming cristals, it's not an infection but it can contribute to cause one

Beyond its tragedy, the film explores human dignity, guilt, and the cost of empathy. Even small characters like Mr. Jingles are treated with compassion, adding layers of sorrow and warmth. In the end, Paul is cursed with an extended life after being touched by Coffey’s gift, doomed to outlive everyone he loves. This haunting finale leaves us with a sense of deep loss, making The Green Mile not just a tearjerker, but a powerful meditation on justice, compassion, and the weight of memory... indeed great choice.

When this story takes place, they didn't have the same kind of antibiotics we do now, and the standard medication for a UTI often had such unpleasant side effects (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea) that people often preferred to try to let the UTI run its course instead. Not a good idea though, because an untreated UTI can get into your kidneys and then your bloodstream, and you can easily go septic and die from it.

This is such a beautiful but brutal film, based on a work by Stephen King. John Coffey's initials matching Jesus's was an intentional choice by King. Great video, guys! Glad you appreciated this painful masterpiece.

Everyone: Oh, a mouse? 🐭🐭☺☺

Percy: 👿👿🔪🔪🤬🤬🗡🗡

Paul's night with his wife after his UTI gets healed resembles the time Arlen Bitterbuck describes with his wife when he was young.
