As an aircraft mechanic its very rare to see these kinds of videos with everything correct about the aircrafts systems. Many of them have small errors or are very cluttered with things that are not important for the explanation. But your videos are always on point, really really great work. Thank you so much for making so many of these great videos!

It’s so bad that YT algorithm pushes content by people with limited, if any, integrity - love the fact that you stand by your principles

I lived in South Korea (my wife being Korean) and the place is run by groups of wealthy families and oligarchs that are all deeply connected to one another. There's also a lot of corruption and a shame/honour culture that keeps a lot of skeletons hidden. That same shame/honour culture also prevents subordinates (e.g. first officers and cabin crew) from challenging authority (e.g. flight captains); this same dynamic happens in other traditional cultures but it is really strong in Korea. In all likelihood the real truth about the Jeju crash will never see the light of day, I strongly suspect, just like that boat crash.

Montage goes past a binder marked "EgyptAir Flight 804 Final Report"

Throwing shade without even mentioning it.

Content-Creators, please pay attention to his explanation at the beginning of this video. This is how the internet should work instead of the garbage speculation and downright misinformation that we are all fed. It's so impressive to find a creator this conscientious about bringing the truth to us! We are rapidly moving toward a complete disregard for everything on the internet and only the type and approach he reflects here can repair it.

Man, I know that Sully activating the APU immediately was a major factor in the survival of everyone on board, but seeing nearly everyone die in a similar dual engine failure from a simultaneous bird strike is just stunning. Realizing that you don't have flaps, gear, rudder, and no hydraulics and you're only a thousand feet from the ground must be a terrifying experience. If the gear had been down, and the spoilers had been deployed, I'm certain that many more people would have survived. Maybe the plane could have even come to a complete stop. It's tragic how disastrous failing to flip a single switch can be.

As a pilot I couldn't imagine a worse nightmare than too high, too long, too fast with no power, no gear, no flaps and approaching a concrete wall with nothing I can do about it. I can't even say I'd have done any better - I've never been in this situation and I'm sure they did the best they could given the circumstances.

RIP. :(

As a Korean I was very sad when this accident happened with such tragic results... and infuriated by all the careless rumours and groundless speculations by people online. I cannot express how much I longed for Mentour pilot to cover this accident and provide an expert, impartial assessment of the situation but I honestly thought it would come in years, once the investigation has been finalised. Thank you so much for giving us some clarity. If you will allow it I would love to add Korean subtitles so that more Koreans can watch this video.

The first time we practiced a dual engine out with manual reversion after takeoff in the sim (the exact survival training you mentioned), we crashed.
We were not prepared for that. I tried to apply the memory items for loss of thrust on both engines, which is fine in the cruise, but while I was doing that the PF couldn't deal with an untrimmed plane in manual reversion.
Then we were told "PM starts APU immediately, PM cranks the manual trim wheel up to help the PF raise the nose, let's see this time".
This seems embarrassingly obvious, when you know...
On the second try, with these instructions in mind, we did fine (and I got a tennis elbow).

This was not required to be practiced on the initial type rating, but was in the six-monthly cycle of exercises we had, that repeat over 3 years. I was on the line for some time before doing this drill, and though this should be taught on type rating.

These two steps have been seared in my mind ever since, on the 737 they are vital.

@NSEasternShoreChemist 1 year ago

The one takeaway I am getting from this video is: for a suspected dual engine failure or power loss, starting the APU ASAP should be a memory item.
Great work Mentour Pilot team!

This is the future of the news. Gone is the legacy media that cover everything at surface level. Content creators who have experience and knowledge in the area being discussed who can make absolutely fabulous content are the future. I’ve been waiting for this since the crash happened. Thanks for all you do!!

@maggiesmith2319 1 year ago

Petter, as a training pilot who has noticed that crews have higher success rates in the “nightmare scenario” at 35:24 when remembering to turn on the APU, are you in a position to advocate making this a memory item in the dual-engine failure (and any other relevant) checklists? As a chemical engineer, I know how often safety regulations are written in blood. I would be delighted to hear how the aviation industry is proactive to prevent the kinds of incidents you cover in your videos.

Thank you so much for creating this video and for waiting to publish until the interim report was published. Your dedication to increasing aviation safety and preventing misinformation makes you one of my favorite creators on YouTube.

I love how Peter waits until the facts come out and then does an immaculate job covering these awful incidents.

48 MINUTES OF MENTOUR? YES PLEASE

@hogsa7287 1 year ago

You are right; airports can't be designed for every freak accident. But why not use softer solutions for that concrete wall? : perforated concrete, frangible barriers, or Engineered Materials Arresting System (EMAS), which are already installed throughout various airports.

@toxicdermyillunary4103 1 year ago (edited)

This is the only video / article about JEJU accident without a comment section filled with people blaming a single wall. I just know there is no better place to find nuanced report about any airplane incident than from you

@greenockscatman 1 year ago

I’m impressed by the fact you’ve trained a scenario that looks to me almost identical, but still held off on doing a video until more facts came in. That’s a sign of a good moral fibre if I ever saw one!

Petter, I am subscribed to over 100 channels on YouTube, mostly serious and technical subjects with a good few aviation related channels among them. I have seen your channel evolve over the last few years and believe now that it is unsurpassed in production quality by any of my other chosen channels. I simply want to say bravo, and thank you for your absolute professionalism in presentation and content creation.
