I've been riding my Fat Boy 114 (2023) on a daily basis for 3 years now. I ride it daily in Rome's city traffic, which sounds crazy to many, but... it is not. No issue at all. In fact, it is an absolute pleasure to ride. The Fat Boy is indeed, in its own very pleasing way, agile.
I also often ride it on windy mountain roads, and it is an absolute joy.

You will not scratch the exhaust pipe when leaning to the limit. Floorboards will touch the ground first. No problem, sincerely.

The Fat Boy is, ultimately, an absolute joy to ride, in my view. I come from an Africa Twin, and a CB1300, which I used in the very same way, for many years before. All bikes I loved. But, none gave me the riding pleasure the Fat Boy gives me. To the point I am not planning to change it any time soon. My heart tells me this is going to be my forever bike. There's some magic in this bike. :)

Suspensions are quite rigid, though. Regardless of what setting you choose.

I enjoyed that immensely..  I had a new 95th anniversary Fatboy and believe me  the floorboards rubbed all the time on my sharp Irish mountain roads  ,,yes the exhaust got rubbed too.  Regarding finding neutral ,,....I fit an easy shifter ( neutral finder )   to all my Harleys and the problem solved very cheaply ,,around 20 euros  .definitely if I find  myself in the position ,I'm buying another Fatboy. I have an 03 fatboy.  Its my first HD.  Shes beautiful, smooth and ive been on many adventures with her including riding all the way out to Sturgis from Idaho.🥰 Respect and a lil fear is required to operate a Fatboy safely. She's a cruiser not a hot rod, peace and grace be with you pretty lady, i loved your review and your style 🙏💕🕊🥰

Hello from Brisbane Australia 🦘 fatboys are a nice bike, especially the early 90's models.I owned a 95 Fatboy with the original centreline rims frt and back.kool bike to ride plus my 2nd bike is a 95 1200 ridgid chopper which i build 2 or 3 choppers a year in which sell..i manufacture my ridgid frames for Sportsters..it keeps me out of trouble..cheers GRACEY.

good job D you nailed it. After some miles the gearbox loosens up, neutral is easy. The ride modes are irrelevant! Had my 107 6yrs, as you found out it's an easy bike to live with. If you keep them near stock its easy to get 23kms/ltr. The oem HD fuelling is extremely well done, be wary of some dyno guy ruining it. cheers from AU.

I love the look of the Fat Boy, even though I'm not a cruiser guy and I just can't imagine getting comfortable with forward controls. I don't mean physically comfortable, or at least not entirely.  No, I mean comfortably  in control of the bike.  My sense of balance isn't so good sitting legs out like that.  Never could get the hang of paddling a kayak for the same reason (but was good with a canoe up on my knees).  Anyway, maybe with the optional mid-controls.  Would love to see you do a video of a normally foot-forward Harley or Indian with mids installed.

The Fatboy was my favourite Harley for a long time, right from when they launched the original, I think in 1990. It looked proper retro back then, especially in the two-tone colours with cream. Like something straight from the ‘50s.

The best way I have found to shift in to neutral when you are stopped. I put it in first gear, crack the throttle quickly and as the RPM's come down, toe the shifter up into neutral. You don't need to rev the engine high. Just a quick crack. I've been doing it that way for many years. Good luck, stay safe and God Bless you, Simon and the gang.

With the Breakout and the Fatboy, both with these large back tyres, you have to try to read the corner before you get to it and plan how you are going to get round the corner. If you go into the corner too hot then getting it round the corner could be quite a hairy experience. Best to go into the corner slower than on another bike and once you're around the corner you can then accelerate out as per normal. I find it a challenging but enjoyable bike to ride as it makes you think about the road ahead.
Braking on these big Harleys requires the use of both brakes together.

Big Harleys are good to practice counter steering technique

To make selecting neutral easier, when you are in first gear, press the big toe side of your boot against the shift lever and gently raise the lever as normal with your toes, make sure to keep some sideways pressure on the shift lever.

Hips, Knees, and Feet. That’s the secret to controlling a big bike while riding.
