As someone who grew up in an abusive home I started believing Susan Wrights version of events after one response in particular. When asked why did you clean up the scene? She answered 'Because if he came home and saw the mess he'd have beaten me', it's not at all rational but it does scream the level of abuse she'd been suffering.

I am a very strong independent person, but I was married for 6 years to a crazy man than abused me & it took several years to get my mental strong self back. I never told said a word to anyone, so I totally understand that he had her convinced there was no way out. If I would have a had a gun in those days,  he probably wouldn’t be here today because I would have just lost it one night. I remember this story & was hoping she would have gotten Manslaughter as I believe she suffered enough.

My mom was beat near daily for 25 yrs. She never went to the cops. It’s not evidence for or against if there’s no charges filed or complaints made.

I never trust the “perfect family” scenarios.  From personal experience, I know this is seldom true.  The more twisted the family dynamic, the more effort is expended to keep up the illusion of perfection.  The perfect couple hides massive coercion and violence.  Daddy’s little girl/little man takes on twisted meanings for the abused.  Also, I had the image of the “perfect student, perfect daughter, immaculate image” while being suicidal. We never know what is going on behind the scenes.

It’s hard to know what the truth really is but the fact that another ex partner said he was violent with her makes you doubt that he was a great husband. It’s the two children I feel the saddest for as they lost both of their biological parents.

susan is free today and, honestly, i'm glad she is. i believe she deserves another chance at life.

My husband was an alcoholic: he was verbally and physically abuse and even though we were married for 20 yrs and been divorced for 20 yrs, most family and friends still know nothing about it.

And ppl wonder why women don’t report or bring to light abuse … why ? Because no matter how horrific it is they will always find a way to blame the victim so what’s the point .

I had knives to my throat with threats of my death by them, it took me 4 years to leave and I was stalked by them for 6 months and approached all the time and the fear and anxiety was always high I got scared to leave my house, 16-20 years later I’m still scared and I found out by the woman after me who reached out to me when they left end of last year and told me he still stalks me but online 😳😳😳I can understand why Wright did what she did completely

My heart goes out to Susan, there are things that she said that you can’t fake. 30 years I survived without anyone knowing. My ex put me in hospital and that was my escape, otherwise I would have still been going through it with “such a lovely man “ according to his friends and family

I watched this trial and was appalled at the antics of the prosecution! I really think she should have walked free. 100% certain, no doubt. The poor woman was in total torment and mentally ill after the event. Feel so sad that she’s lost her children. I wish her well in the future. Thanks for this one Emma 😘

I absolutely love you! The psychology you put into your videos is absolutely amazing. I am a registered nurse and always have found forensics fascinating. I truly appreciate you as a person and an amazing story teller for lack of a better term.

I'm always bragging. " I have to go watch my show, it's emma kenny" goes into deep deep dives into why I love ❤ emma!! I always walk away educated excited and ready for the next heart breaking case!!

Keep on keeping on emma! 🥰

Why didn't you just leave is the worst and most stupid question anyone who hasn't been abused can ask.

Em, it's uncanny the amount of things that you have said here that actually applied to me in my first marriage which l endured for 21 years Your portrayal of this is so accurate <3

This is a hard one. If her version is true then I would have to say that falls under the 'he needed killin' defense. I hid the abuse I went thru from everyone around me for 12+ yrs so Im def biased towards her. Abuse victims and addicts get good at hiding things from the ppl closest to them.

I can believe her. I’ve been in an abusive  marriage and to everyone else my husband was the nicest guy. He wasn’t physically large either. He was controlling and abusive and there were definitely times I wanted to kill him before he killed me and was left alone with our daughter. Thank god it never came to that and I was able to leave him. A side note here my ex returned to our home one day as despite an injunction with powers of stress et attached, a judge allowed him to come and collect our child. I did not even have a home phone. He forced his way in a raped me at knifepoint. According to the doctor it wasn’t rape as he was still my husband and it wasn’t a crime to rape your wife in those days also he wondered where my bruises were. He had a knife at my throat, he didn’t need to bruise me! I’ve since worked with a lot of families experiencing abuse and without a doubt the most dangerous time for a woman in an abusive relationship, is when she leaves him.  We know this and it’s one reason we don’t leave. Fear. For me he raped me because he wanted to get me pregnant then no other man would want me with two kids. According to him anyway. He did get me pregnant despite the morning after pill I managed to get from the doctor that didn’t work!  My sympathies tend to lie with Susan. His ex said he was abusive.  Her doctors said she has been abused. Her defence was atrocious and she should have been allowed a retrial. I’m convinced with a decent lawyer she’s have got a lot less prison time. I really hope his family have not poisoned the children against her and I hope the reconnect with their mother.

I've been that scared ,and if I hadn't had the friends and family when I ran ,and it had come to it I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have stopped stabbing and it would probably have got to dismemberment before I'd have been to believe he wasn't going to come for me and terror does all sorts of weird stuff to your head,so I reckon she's very probably telling the truth. By the way, totally gripping stuff as always Emma xxx

Emma, THANK YOU for saying that an age gap can absolutely be indicative of an extreme power imbalance.
My abusive ex left me for a woman young enough to be our daughter, (they're now living together and planning to marry, and it appears she will be financially supporting my ex just like I did for so many years) and to this day I honestly and sincerely think that the reason my ex deliberately sought out such a very young woman is because he perceived her to be far more naive and unsophisticated than I ever was. In fact, when they first began their relationship she was younger than I'd been when I began my relationship with him over a decade earlier...one of the things that seemed to be a constant thorn in his side was the fact that I was vastly more experienced at traveling, managing money, socializing, etc. than he was, and he also seemed to be deeply frustrated by the fact that my family was more savvy and financially stable than his was. This new woman appears to come from a family which would be far less able to help her out if she did ever consider leaving.
Long story short, I hear so much that "May-December" relationships don't necessarily mean there's a power imbalance, which I'm sure is true...but nonetheless, my experience is that they are indeed very often likely to empower the older partner and disadvantage the younger partner. And when this involves an older man and a younger, more naive, less savvy woman this can be even more the case.

Hi Emma, hearing this story takes me back to what my life was like 20 years ago,  my snapping point was taking the kids and leaving with only the clothes on our backs, I truly  believed at one time that the outcome would be one of two scenarios, either he would kill me or I would have to kill him to be free, but in truth I did break free, he did make my life a living nightmare, still does, and I really feel like the system let me down ,  as for this case I believe Susan, I’ve been there and it’s brought back so many memories, non good, anyway thanks for  doing this case, it’s not one I’ve heard of xx Jo
