It's November 8th, just before 3 p.m, in Dallas. Under an overcast sky, a man pulls up to a gas station near I-35 and South Marsalis Avenue. But he's not here for gas. A 66-year-old man is going to meet a buyer from Facebook Marketplace to sell his iPhone.

Just minutes after he parked his car, a single gunshot cracks through the air.

A few blocks away, parents picking their kids up from a nearby elementary school hear it too. Worried about the sound, they call 911 to report it.

Officers race to the scene expecting chaos. Instead, they're about to find something far quieter — and more disturbing.
