Robert Eggers' directors commentary track for The Witch (or "The VVitch" or whatever you want to call it) is easily the funniest director's commentary I have ever heard. Today I will share this experience with you

People watching The VVitch: "It's so disturbing and hard to watch!"

Now I'll never be able to enjoy The VVitch because of the modern firewood

as a historian, this film is one of my favourites of all time. the period accuracy is phenomenal and the fact he's so critical of it is the most history nerd thing ever. love him.

When you’re in a hating yourself competition and your opponent is Robert Eggers:

He's clearly a perfectionist. The most impressive thing is that he completes anything. You typically hear of directors like this going over budget, and being a nightmare to actors.

The virgin "We're not making a documentary" vs the chad "The goats are incorrect"

This makes the guy tweeting at him about the bird calls in Nosferatu being wrong so much funnier

@sebcooper5666 7 months ago

I just know that one voral tweet about the bird call from an incorrect region in Nosferatu ate at him like a canker sore

@merlinho0t 6 months ago

I think Black Phillip being incorrect fits even better into the story, since it’s not a goat.. but a goat IMPOSTER.

This is EXACTLY who I want directing my movies

Laughed my ass off for firewood being too modern for him xD

As an archaeologist I fucking love his dedication to historical authenticity. It's what really hooked me in the Witch, and in The Northman in particular so many of the Norse sets looked directly out of an archaeology textbook. Refusing to coddle the audience with modern-sounding dialogue pulls you so much deeper into the world
