For years, my problem with modern movies is how clean everything looks, how smooth everything looks, it is almost like looking at an Instagram picture full of filters.

Dude tell me that actors sweating isn’t a huge factor. In old movies everyone was sweatin. Everyone is too damn clean now

Another thing that contributes to the haptic visuality is a grounded camera. A floating camera zooming around weightlessly is a disembodied perspective, where the viewer's lens into the world itself is not immersed in the environment and context

The crazy part is that the studio is dumping twice as much money on these movies to make them look half as good.

One problem I personally notice is "soundstage blocking." The scene will be set in a wide open field, but it feels like the characters are trapped in a 20 foot square because that's the exact size of the soundstage they filmed it on.

I admire people who are able to pinpoint why I feel the way I feel. I should be able to explain my own feelings myself, but somehow I'm not. The term "haptic visuality" will remain on my personal vocabulary list.

I’m only 3 minutes in but I’d like to add: the length of shots has shortened greatly. You’re rarely left to sit in a scene without the shot changing. You never get to observe anything for any real length. It’s just subject, next subject, next subject, next subject… your attention is constantly shifting rather than settling.

One of my many gripes is that actors will fall into water, crawl through mud and come out clean with really bright white teeth. They never sweat any more, they never bleed.

Realistic looking movies seem more magical to me now. By making everything look fake they have lost that feeling

Lack of textures and the need for perfection takes us out of the movie. It's the uncanny valley, not just of the faces or CGI but of the environnement : it's steril and clean
