I was in a store in Port Arthur in Texas. Assistant said to me:" I love your British accent, y'all speak like Julie Andrews". I am a Yorkshireman, the English equivalent of "L'il Abner. I refrained from laughing.
The reason why the'bad guys' in American films are so often British is because Americans cannot bear to think of themselves as the bad guys.Just ask anyone in the Vietnamese village of Mai Lai.
The difference between yanks and brits are that rough language in the States is considered as rude while colourful language in Britain equals speaking plainly!
As a Brit I can tell you when we say "It was alright" or "nothing special", then that's when you really have to worry. They actually mean that was a waste of time and I wish Id never gone etc 💩 basically
It's often a Brit because Hollywood is lazy, the US can understand the bad character because they are speaking English, Australians get it, Canadians too, lazy Hollywood.
we are the most dangerous people on the planet, can't really deny that. no other nation conquered so much of the world and held it with a vast navy plus 100,000 professional soldiers and an attitude. just because we put our feet up and expected america to do the job doesnt mean we arent fully capable of doing it all again. if the pub crawl goes overseas.
This really brightened my day, thanks, I'm just going down to the the pub for a pint, Tessa, my dog will be hoovering any spilled peanuts from the carpet...
Driving in the UK for me was like solving a complex puzzle. It is a case of developing skill. By the way, there are many more road deaths per head in the US than in Britain
