What Americans either forget or don't know is that the U.S charged Britain for every bullet, shell, tank, ship and GI's salary when they entered the war 3 years late, they charged interest on that loan and it took until 2006 for Britain to pay that back. Heros?
Most of the "little ships" at Dunkirk were manned by Royal Navy sailors, as they had been commandeered by the military. There were some civilian-manned boats, and one of those civilians who took their boat over was Charles Lightoller. He had an amazing story, as 28 years previously, he was the Second Officer on the Titanic...
And it is a common myth that Britain would have starved if the Atlantic convoys had been stopped. Before the war, when it became obvious it was coming, the British government did some experiments, and developed a diet that used 100% home-grown ingredients. Using that diet, which was very carb-heavy, it would have been possible to feed the entire British population just from home-grown produce.
The pilots that managed to escape to Britain were the most highly skilled and motivated in the world by fact of darwinian selection . They had already fought the luftwaffe outnumbered in inferior planes and lived to fight again Being held back and finally released into modern capable aircraft , its no wonder they shone brightly . The tragedy is many were returned to soviet occupation and treated very badly by Stalin...
Fun fact Hitler actually admired the British empire he wanted Britain as his ally he hoped if he could defeat Britain he could get an alliance to help the Germany invade the US, also my grandfather was an anti tank gunner during Ww2 they captured a German tank commander he confiscated the commander’s binoculars i still have these ww2 German binoculars complete with the original leather case.
Britain didn't import all their food. How would they have survived so long if they depended on imports? Victory gardens were for life and people tightened their belts.
Many Poles got themselves to the UK just so they could keep fighting the Germans. Poland may have been invaded, but they never surrendered and kept an army fighting throughout the war.
& why the Brits starved 1945-1954 America would only help if we gave up our rights to everything including our Empire to them… 😡 America in a nut shell.
