Kinda funny how this one scene is pretty much The Voyage of the Demeter but in like 5 mins

I love how this dude knows what he likely faces and still decides to stand against it anyway, just like everyone else in this movie

"I’ve mastered the ability of standing so incredibly still… that I become invisible to the eye." - Count Orlock

Finally, a vampire movie that shows vampires as they were written, evil and brutal.

Fun fact about Orlok conjuring a storm: that was taught to him by the devil himself, according to the story. Orlok learned the dark arts from him, and as payment for his entire cohort, he was tasked with conjuring storms on behalf of Satan.

This is basically a story about a long distance online relationship

3:13 i love how much more rough and gory this movie is compared to most vampire media. This is the only time Orlok does the iconic neck bite (instead of going for the chest like he does through most of the movie) and instead of just puncturing it he straight up tears the guy's throat open in a bloody fountain. Try as he might to look and sound like a fancy nobleman, Orlok has as much finesse as a rabid beast.

The idea of a vampire being a walking plague is such a fucking cool concept. I love vampires and somehow I have never heard of this idea before.

I love that there is a whole separate movie based off of just this scenario alone

This scene was a good addition, showing how Nosferatu has had more than one assassin come for him.  Then the detail that the ship crashed into the coastline of the township because it has no living crew, with rats spilling out.

1:20 I’ve seen a lot of vomiting in movies, but this instance in particular really gets to me. Idk if it’s the colour, the sounds he’s making, or the reactions of the crew, but this exact moment really captures the agony and horror that Orlok leaves in his wake.

This movie and The Last Voyage of The Demeter each do excellent jobs of showcasing the horror of a vampire on a ship in vastly different ways. One is more heroic, the other more despairing, each equally explaining how something as horrible as Dracula or Nosferatu can be.

"The ship pulled in without a sound, it's faithful captain long since cold. He kept his log to the bloody end, last entry read 'rats in the hold. My crew is dead. I fear the plague.'"
- Blue Oyster Cult, "Nosferatu"

I love how Orlok acts like a Xenomorph in this scene.

I loved the murmur in the Theater when that guy walk right past Orlock.

i like how orlok waits until the last possible moment to use his vampire side

I’ll admit this movie had me going into a whole anxiety attack

Bill skarsgard is a horror master

The amount of commenters thinking they’re clever pointing out the “why they taking a ship??” plot point is hilarious….it’s the most low level film student sounding “but what about the?” type critique on a brilliantly executed film.

Firstly, while the route would be longer, yes…it’s not just merely a possible route but a probable one given that Orlock probably wouldn’t want his coffin transported by land where it’d be much more susceptible to sunlight, border checkpoints, thievery, and fewer handlers for his precious cargo.

Secondly, presenting it this way is significantly more cinematic with amplified stakes; on a ship we’re now dealing with many more available victims, and all without the ability to escape.

Just being cold and wet is enough horror for me.
