I also noticed when Defoe’s character is shouting challenges/curses at the vampire he uses the divine names that surround the Triangle of Art, which is used to constrain the summoned demon in Solomonic magic.
I'm so glad someone did a video on this because I haven't seen anybody mention this other than me, and I'm just a rando. When I saw the trailer and there was a sigil on Nosferatu's coffin I loudly asked "Is Eggers gonna go all Scholomance?" And while he didn't go deep, the nun and the occult doctor both dropped the name and that made me giddy.
I read a book of Romanian Folk tales on an airplane to Sibiu. I believe they have alchemical origins and they persevered all these years because of Romania’s isolationist policies starting in the 13th century.
This movies shows that when one is really invested in the lore and history the producers will produce a piece of art which is true to the source. And for the party poopers out there yes not everything can be cramped in one picture. But lets be honest this movie is art in a desert of bad movies and unoriginal reboots and flops.
I love all these occult bits Eggers added to Nosferatu. He makes the story more than just a Dracula adaptation with the serial numbers filed off. He makes it his own.
There’s also Orlok’s primary character trait: insatiable hunger. He says it himself. He’s an appetite and that’s it. He desires only to consume Ellen completely. And then there’s the implication that Ellen accidentally raised him from the dead in the beginning.
I wish Eggers would produce a series on how Orlok gets into this cult and becomes a vampire and reveal more of the connection he has with Ellen Hutter, maybe with a former reincarnation of hers. One season. 8 episodes of around one hour each. It would be beautiful!
I've heard about the legend of this school several times, but each time didn't answer my one question: The tenth student, was he the one at the top of his/her class, or the bottom?
Thank you very much for crafting this video. I must say I think he dropped the ball by aligning Belial to Orlock. I believe the more appropriate choice would have been Asmodeus.
