If you are noticing audio sync issues, it is because of YouTube’s new “feature” called Stable Volume. It’s automatically turned on and can desync a lot of videos.
Turn it off in the settings of this video to fix the problem :)

My headcanon is that since Orlok doesn't need to breath since he is technically dead, the wheezing comes because he needs to breath so he can talk, and he doesn't talk a lot

as a Romanian, i truly appreciate Robert Eggers for wanting to be authentic, the romanian dialogue is the best i've heard  in any vampire/dracula movie ever (99% of the time they either get people who clearly don't speak romanian or they direct them to speak with ridiculous accents to sound more spooky i guess😑😑) , not only is the accent from the region authenthic, but the actual phrasing is natural, it doesn't sound like something that was translated to romanian from another language.

my mother and i actually giggled out loud in the cinema when watching the movie because the village elder swore in the most fucking transilvanian way possible with the most transilvanian accent and it caught us completely off-guard. that accent is a lot like how Australian or Scottish accents are in English, in the sense that things just naturally sound more funny when spoken in them for some reason.

"The Witch " and "The Lighthouse " are now required viewing.
Edit: No George, this was not shot on location.  Those are just phenomenal sets.

Now you might enjoy "Shadow of the Vampire" which is a clever, fun movie about filming the 1922 Nosferatu with Willem  Dafoe giving a great performance as Count Orlok/ Max Shrek and Eddie Izard killing it as a silent movie actor.

Absolute hats off for tackling the first Nosferatu. You won't get so many views, but it's a window into a vanished culture. Takes patience and different expectations, but some real gold waiting to be discovered.

33:40  One thing to remember about 1922 version is that it was pretty much the first vampire movie ever, and it was a genuine supernatural horror film.

The Passion of Joan of Arc (1928) is the one

METROPOLIS is an essential silent movie to see.

The concept of a vampire being killed by daylight originated with this movie.  It was not in the novel "Dracula."   It was one of the changes Murnau made to try to avoid copyright problems.

The cabinet of doctor Caligari (1920)
Der Golem (1920)
Der Müde Tod (1921)
Faust (1926)
Metropolis (1927)
Frau im Mond (1929)

All great examples of German expressionism, of which Nosferatu is a part. I recommend all of them if you’re interested looking into more silent films. I’d even throw in Fritz Lang’s M (1931), one of the first German sound pictures, for its incredible atmosphere and a phenomenal performance by Peter Lorre.

47:45 it wasn’t shown in the YouTube edit but the close up of Orlock’s eyes after Thomas cuts his thumb is one of the creepiest close ups I’ve seen in a while. Whole theater twitched when they cut to him

Ellens cat in the Eggers movie was named Greta after the german actor Greta Schröder who played Ellen in the original 1922 movie

The bite to the chest is from original vampyr folklore of transylvania, and other slavic countries. Much older than stokers book

Nosferatu from 1979 is also worth a watch and has as much influence on the Eggers version as the original, although much more somber in tone (but with Isabelle Adjani looking absolutely ethereal).

"Shadow of the vampire" from 2000 is a fictionalized story of making of the original. It was rather positively received and stars Malkovich and Dafoe so you might be interested in reacting to it

Good to see the OG getting its love too!

Lily Rose-Depp is crazy talented in this..
amazing actress

Christopher Walken's character in Batman Returns was named Max Shrek after the actor who played Nosferatu (1922).

You guys really should complete Eggers' filmography and do The Lighthouse and The Witch
