His dad died two weeks ago, it has still got to be very raw for him. Of course he stopped when he choked up, rather than bursting in tears in front of the whole Labour Party Conference. It would have provided footage that his enemies and unkind trolls would have played on a loop for years to ridicule him. When my dad died I couldn't even get through my short lesson reading in church at his funeral without sobbing uncontrollably. Give the man a break for goodness sake.

Any arguement about the fairness of scrapping the triple lock assumes that the amount spent on state pensions was right to begin with Judged by the proportion of what the state pension costs in terms of the per cent of GDP, the UK state pension is very poor by comparison at 5% with most other advanced countries.Austria, France Portugal 13 to 14 %., OECD averagearound 8%.So the OECD countries on average spend 60% more. Annd many other countries now have ahigherGDP than the UK. Ireland hasover double the per capita GDP compared to the UK but their pension is higher in money terms despite being only 3% of GDP.

Partly his delay and pause was that someone was undergoing a medical emergency and having to be evacuated from the room at that precise point. I think he saw it and felt he needed to pause.

This is the sensible way forward, pensions need to take a back seat to more urgent needs like reducing child poverty, nhs and defence

I could never repay the care workers who looks after my parents and in-laws in their most challenging times.

They are at rest now, but in the hour of need these heroes delivered

I don’t remember pensioners showing the same level of outrage when tuition fees were tripled and an entire generation was saddled with debt. We were told at the time that, with more people attending university, it was becoming unaffordable, despite other European countries managing to provide free higher education.
